Arizona Vs UCF 🏀 Game Preview/Discussion Thread 1/10/25 8pm ESPN

The Arizona Wildcats (9-5, 3-0 B12) will host the UCF Knights (11-3, 2-1 B12) in a Big 12 showdown on Saturday. Both teams are off to strong starts this season.

UCF looking to prove themselves
The UCF Knights are ranked 76th in the KenPom ratings. They rank 86th in defensive rating and 93rd in offensive rating. The Knights' big wins this season include victories over Texas A&M, FAU, and Texas Tech. Their three losses came against Wisconsin, LSU, and Kansas. The Kansas loss was particularly embarrassing, with a 99-48 defeat on their home floor. However, UCF bounced back with a close 75-64 home win over Colorado on Wednesday.
Keyshawn Hall leads UCF with 15.6 points and 6.6 rebounds per game, followed by Jordan Iv-Curry (15.4 ppg) and Darius Johnson (14.7 ppg). Johnson also leads the team with 4.0 assists and 3.0 steals per game.

UCF is second in the Big 12 averaging 78.5 ppg and shooting 77.3% from the free-throw line. As impressive as the scoring has been, the Knights also allow 76.4 ppg, which is more than any other team in the conference allows.

Arizona looks to stay undefeated in Big 12
The Arizona Wildcats are ranked 13th in the nation by KenPom. They rank 15th in offensive rating and 21st in defensive rating. Arizona won its fifth straight game on Tuesday, defeating West Virginia 75-66 on the road to remain undefeated in the Big 12. The conference win over the Mountaineers avenged an 83-76 non-conference overtime tournament loss the Wildcats suffered to West Virginia earlier this season. Arizona's other losses this season came against Wisconsin, Duke, Oklahoma, and UCLA.

Arizona is seventh in the conference, averaging 75 ppg, but only 15th amongst the 16 teams knocking down 31.3% from three-point range. Leading Arizona in scoring is Caleb Love with 15.8 ppg. Tobe Awaka leads the team with 7.3 rebounds per game and also averages 7.4 ppg. On defense the Wildcats are 10th in the Big 12 allowing 67.7 ppg.

Arizona is favored at 13.5 points and the Over/Under is 157.5 points

UCF is the 3rd luckiest team in the country. Their record is largely the product of beating up on inferior teams and losing when opponents have talent levels equal to, or better than, theirs. Their 51 point loss to Kansas was flukey. We should not expect something like that to happen again. UCF plus the points seems like a reasonable pick. And the Over. Neither team likes to play slow - or play defense.

Our game plan will center around our big men. UCF relies on an 18 year old post player that is talented but needs to bulk up if he wants to keep up with Veesaar and Awaka. We should comfortably win by 20-30.

UCF is not that bad. The did win at Tex Tech, who is not too bad. As I type this, they are in OT with Iowa St.

Agreed. If Tom takes the day off, we may lose.

KansasCityCats

The team never gave up and somehow held on, despite an ugly defensive rebounding performance.

Hopefully, we won't get the same officiating crew in the near future. They called every ticky tack foul on earth. It wasn't advantageous towards either team but it killed the momentum of the game.
