Why?

I asked about our future plans at C in the box yesterday. This guy was the reason why I asked.
It makes more sense if you look at it with the thought in mind that Tom and the staff may view Dylan and Henri as being better utilized, and/or more natural fits, in Stretch 4 roles rather than as traditional Post Centers. But I really have no idea how they view our guys and their roles right now moving into next season.

It really looks bad and Coach Lloyd has really put himself in this spot by only offering a handful of kids, but there are still a few quality guys in the portal to land. First is to lock up Carter Bryant for 2024.

What we have for 2023:
Boswell came in early and showed already that he will be a leader on this team.
Larsson showed his best coming off the bench but was certainly a solid player either way.
Ballo is a big guy in the middle and should improve yet a little more in the off season.
KJ Lewis who actually looks like he will come in with some toughness and that is a good thing. Something we need.
Veesaar who is more of a stretch four as is most of the bigs from europe. Hope he stretches well.
Anderson who actually has been underused and has some toughness that could have been critical last year.
Borovicanin who actually looked ok when in, but then again so did Bal and we see where he is.

Tubelis who is like a shadow hanging around because his Brother was here.

AND the potential for Tubelis to return?
The problem I am having with Anderson/Borovicanin & Veesaar (at the time of posting) is they are not ready to REALLY contribute based on the last time I saw them in action for Arizona to be where they would like to be.
Another problem is I do not believe they are going to be able to make a big enough jump in development to cover the holes being vacated by both Henderson & Tubelis.
Add in that I do not believe Lewis is going to be filling the void left by Ramey?
We still have three holes in the projected starting lineup, and not a single body has walked in the door to fill one.

The only one to blame for the lack of development is Tommy Lloyd. I think all of these guys can play. Tommy doesn't let them. He is more stuck in his ways than Lute and Sean Miller combined. He is hindering talent at a rate unlike I have ever seen. Now that Miller's guys are basically gone AND he lost one of his own in Bal, I think Tommy has a lot to prove this year.

If he brings in "whatever is left over" in the portal AND they take over the minutes lost from the players that moved on over top of the players who stuck around, he will lose those players. (Henri, Dylan, Boro). You cannot spit in anyone's face that many times and expect any sort of loyalty or willingness to stick around.

I am not going to speak on next season, but I believe Lloyd is trying to run an interchangeable lineup of bigs that won't be so predictable in-game.
Last two seasons, you knew where both Ballo/Tubelis were going to be no matter what.
I am assuming that Anderson/Veesaar would be able to be swapped out based on the play, or as simple as whomever gets down the court the fastest.
The best and worst part about all of this is that is does not appear to be any early indications of what roles these young prospects would be playing (including Borovicanin as well).

I too agree that they all can play.
Where we disagree is that Tommy is not letting them play.
I believe it is a "you can stay in as long as you produce" type of mantra, because in reality, the reason they are in the game is to simply give the veterans a breather.
Lloyd: "If you can't contribute while you are out on the floor, I will put someone is that can (and will) do it for me"

The biggest issue with this is if you don't allow them to have enough meaningful reps, you run into the situation Arizona is in now.
Three freshmen with little reps are being looked at to make huge leaps in their game because they are next up.
While I do agree that Lloyd is going to bring in some bodies.
I am not so sure that the bodies he will bring in will (1) fit the program, and (2) be good enough to have recruited to Arizona in the first place.
I am pessimistically concerned that Lloyd is not going to be able to recruit enough elite domestic talent, will resort (or settle?) for international prospects that may take longer to develop and have ready to step up and go.

Koloko seemed like a project and Lloyd developed him. Ballo seemed like a project st this point last year and Lloyd developed him.

It was one season where Veesaar and Anderson both played behind two All-conference post players. These two will be better next season but it wouldn't hurt to bring in one more body for depth purposes.
