fucla has to be the top job available right now, the los angeles area is littered with top flight recruits, many with the bruins as their dream school, plus they are still a national draw recruiting wise. A worthy coach should be able to grab talent right away.I figure they are willing and able to pay the $$$ for the right guy.

unlv would be my second choice. Believe this is a diamond in the rough. Close to a lot of talent as well, and could recruit nationally, people still know unlv as a bball school. A growing fan base would garner plenty of attention to the program. No clue about their facilities, think they would be top notch.  Any ones guess what they can pay.

alabama would be my third, yes they are a football school, but the athletic dept. looks to be well rounded. The sec is a great conference, I'm sure the facilities are elite and believe they have the $$$ to chase the right coach. alabama is about winning and would draw a crowd if they became a winner. Recruiting would take some work but could easily reach elite level with the right guy.

All the other jobs look like stepping stones and not a final destination type of job.

I can respect this assessment FlagCat.
Like you, I believe UNLV is a very underrated job.
I would have put 3rd on my list (UCLA/Texas A&M) over Alabama because of the history they have had on a national basketball level, albeit was almost 20yrs ago.

UPDATE!

BYU's Dave Rose has retired.
Arkansas has fired Mike Anderson.
Nebraska has fired Tim Myles.

Washington State has hired San Francisco's Kyle Smith
UNLV has hired South Dakota State's TJ Otzelberger.
Alabama has hired Buffalo's Nate Oats.

We all know Oats and his Buffalo program as they have been 2-0 vs the PAC-12 in the last two years.
If he was able to produce a high-level program in the Mid-American Conference, I wonder what he would be able to do in the SEC with a brand like Alabama.

UPDATE!

More smaller schools filling their vacancies.
Biggest update this time is Cal has hired Mark Fox.
Fox, last job at Georgia, was also at Nevada where he made a name for himself.

The West roots should still be there, so we will see if he can get past the academics of getting into Cal.

Good info here, interesting how all this is playing out, thanks for the updates mvpreed2!

Wonder who the next coach is at UCLA.

KansasCityCats

Despite his family connections to Nebraska, I'm baffled that the Huskers landed Hoiberg.  The Big-10 is trending upwards.

Wonder who the next coach is at UCLA.
As do I, and it is making me believe it is someone that is still in the tourney or someone in the NBA.
Almost all of the top names have been hired already, but Sampson might be a good option.
He did take Oklahoma to a Final Four about 10yrs ago..

Thanks FlagCat!
Just want to help Wild and bring some variety and traffic to other parts of the site.
I'm glad someone is enjoying it...and with that being said...

UPDATE!
Nebraska has hired former Chicago Bulls and Iowa State coach Fred Hoiberg.

I'm not so sure how his "Pace & Space" style of play is going to work at a school that struggles to land quality talent.
Nebraska being stuck between Big 10 and Big 12 country usually ends up with the scraps.
I'm going to assume Hoiberg hits the transfer/JUCO ranks hard to build the foundation until the hype/buzz is high enough to attract/land quality HS prospects.

I think he lands better talent than he did in Ames.

ISU never pulled in top tier kids, yet the "Mayor" always won. Now that he established a name for himself, I think Nebraska will have a nice mix of transfers and Top-100 kids.
