KansasCityCats

Is definitely out then at the third best opening.

UNLV, Cal, Temple and St Joe's aren't better than A&M...although I'd rather live in any of Reno there four locations because College Station is terrible.

fucla has to be the top job available right now, the los angeles area is littered with top flight recruits, many with the bruins as their dream school, plus they are still a national draw recruiting wise. A worthy coach should be able to grab talent right away.I figure they are willing and able to pay the $$$ for the right guy.

unlv would be my second choice. Believe this is a diamond in the rough. Close to a lot of talent as well, and could recruit nationally, people still know unlv as a bball school. A growing fan base would garner plenty of attention to the program. No clue about their facilities, think they would be top notch.  Any ones guess what they can pay.

alabama would be my third, yes they are a football school, but the athletic dept. looks to be well rounded. The sec is a great conference, I'm sure the facilities are elite and believe they have the $$$ to chase the right coach. alabama is about winning and would draw a crowd if they became a winner. Recruiting would take some work but could easily reach elite level with the right guy.

All the other jobs look like stepping stones and not a final destination type of job.

Understandable.
I would put Alabama in that #3 spot as well.

Rumor Mill: Rumor is that former Bucks coach and Cal alum Jason Kidd would be willing to be the next coach of the Los Angeles Lakers.
Why is this relevant to college?
Kidd would be willing to hold off on taking the Cal job if he knew the Lakers job would come available.
Kidd going back home to Cal?

You think that moves the needle for Cal?
I do, Kidd would be biggest name there since Montgomery.

Kidd to Cal would be similar to Penny in Memphis.

He wouldn't be the best coach, but he'd be a premier recruiter that has basketball knowledge.

Thanks for the update.

No problem, that's why I started it.
One thing about Kidd is that he has NBA experience, which I don't velieve Penny did.
He was just tied into the HS/AAU scene, but I do agree with you.

I'd be interested in seeing who Kidd would bring with him.
The right staff could work wonders for Kidd AND Cal.

I noticed there weren't any names mentioned with Cal other than Kidd.
As for Alabama, I like that short list of candidates they had.

It's not going to happen but I think Cal should consider bringing back Ben Braun. He still lives in Berkeley and although he's pushing mid-60s, I think he could right the ship there a bit.

That is definitely not the wave that programs are on.
They want the young up and comer, the proven veteran, or an attention-getter.
Kidd is an attention-getter solely because he is from Oakland and the administration believes he would be able to recruit AND fill the seats; just like Penny at Memphis.

I never even considered Kidd as an option, but it makes sense.
I understood the last two hirings of Martin and Jones, but they couldn't coach and barely could recruit so..
