JJ Mandaquit 6'1 Washington transfer PG has committed to Arizona!

JJ Mandaquit, the former Washington Huskies guard, made it official on Monday by committing to the Arizona Wildcats. The 6-foot-1 point guard hit the transfer portal after just one season in Seattle and will have three years of eligibility left when he joins Tommy Lloyd's squad for the 2026-27 season. It's a nice early win for Arizona in the portal, giving them some much-needed backcourt help right as they start rebuilding after losing key pieces from last year's roster.

The Honolulu native was a top-100 recruit coming out of high school and showed flashes as a true point guard during his freshman year with the Huskies. He played in 22 games, starting six, and put up 5.2 points, 3.2 assists, and 2.1 rebounds per game while doing a solid job running the offense. What really stands out is his experience playing for USA Basketball under Lloyd, where he picked up multiple gold medals. That prior connection should make the transition to Tucson pretty smooth.

This move reunites Mandaquit with a coach who clearly believes in him, and it adds some experienced leadership to Arizona's guard rotation. Fans are already excited to see how he'll fit in alongside the incoming freshmen and other transfers. With Tommy Lloyd's track record of developing guards, Mandaquit has a real chance to carve out a bigger role and help the Wildcats stay competitive in the Big 12 while chasing another deep tournament run. It feels like a smart pickup all around.

Should be a nice backup PG, who will hopefully take over the starting role as an upperclassman.

Not against jj or dixon, but I was hoping for atleast one of the guards to be more athletic, an zoom would have brought that, I would have loved a zoom an dixon at the point.

I understand that Tommy is the coach, I hope this is the best decision.

There is a chance zoom may have been out of our price range.

Welcome to the family that is Arizona JJ!
We are all glad to have you, especially me!

This is the type of PG that I believe will take Arizona's offense to the next level!
A true PG that continues to look to get his teammates open looks, and also is a POA defender?
I can easily see Mandaquit leading the Big 12 in total assists and asts/game the way Lloyd lets these boys run.

Zoom is a nice distributor but he can't shoot a 3 pointer. I think the staff is trying to build around a balanced offense.
