Bradley Ignites Wildcats' Comeback to Beat Bruins 69-65

The Arizona Wildcats pulled off a gritty 69-65 win over UCLA on Friday night at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, rallying from an eight-point second-half deficit with an 11-2 run that flipped the game late. Anthony Dell'Orso led Arizona with 20 points, knocking down four threes and sinking two pressure free throws with 17 seconds left to secure the win. Jaden Bradley added 15 points — 13 of them after halftime — sparking the late surge with a momentum-shifting dunk and a deep three. Arizona shot 47.3% from the field, while UCLA hit 43.1% and an efficient 9-for-17 from beyond the arc, but the Bruins were undone by key turnovers and second-chance opportunities in the closing minutes.

After the final buzzer, Arizona head coach Tommy Lloyd emphasized the meaning of the rivalry, saying, "That rivalry is so important... we just want to honor the legacy of the program." Dell'Orso noted the team's composure in the comeback, saying they "kept believing in each other," while Bradley added that the late push came from veteran experience: "When it matters, we know how to close." The win pushes Arizona to 4–0 and adds an early résumé-boosting victory in a matchup that rarely disappoints.

Let me see if I can rattle off my thoughts thus far into the season.

- I understand Lloyd trusts Bradley, and wants to feature both 5* prospects, but do not forget about Krivas in this offense.

- That high/low action Lloyd likes to run needs to be tweaked to have that low big dive in front of the basket to allow two-way moves in the paint. Being on one side of the block limits your moves, kick-out passes, and efficiency. If you want the ball inside, then make sure it gets there.

- Peat has to get more than 5FGA, and you have to put Burries/Peat in actions when the pace of game is slower. As much as these prospects say they like to run and gun, Burries/Peat are not going to excel in that system all the time. Draw up a play after a make to get the ball in their hands and make a high-IQ play.

- The defensive rotation and defensive rebounding on this team is bad. Getting beat off the 1v1 matchup and leaving Krivas to protect the rim is only going to work as long as he is on the floor. Once he is gone, you lose 4-5in (pause) in Awaka who is bigger/stronger, but not a shot-blocker.

- Work on the defensive rotations and help side in practice to minimize the driving lanes, passing lanes off the kickout, and length to contest a spot-up jumper.

Lloyd is not perfect, and he is also not going to focus on defense the way Miller did.
Some of these things are easy fixes, and I would even encourage him to go out and get an assistant that is like a defensive head coach and let him run that segment of practice.
This team has the tools to be elite, but this defense is going to cause them to lose some games if/when the offense is left on the bus/plane.

Well, I agree.

But seems like when I say this, I get push back. Perhaps it is my unfiltered nature and affinity for the truth.

UCLA's game plan involved Peat. They did everything in their power to collapse on him, when he entered the lane.

Fortunately, this team is deep enough that other guys like Delly, Bradley and Krivas stepped up to compensate on offense.

Jaden Bradley was great at the end, but not sure why he wasn't being aggressive all game, arizona needs him  to be aggressive , when your in a dog fight like that, peat couldn't get anything  going, because of ucla collapsing  on him, burries really
struggled, krivas was good but not enough  shots for him.
Ado was great offensively, arizona  needed him out there to get buckets.

100%. I have no idea how they obtain their data but I'm glad our staff doesn't use it for future reference.

Although Burries was awful on offense, his defensive game has been improving. I'd love to see him force some UConn turnovers and create an inevitable Hurley-fit.

KansasCityCats

Wow. Something goofy with the quote feature. Deb's comments apparently should be stated twice 😊
