Does this push back his opportunity to join the HOF?

You must be retired for five years. If he signs a contract, I assume the clock resets, right?  This is something he should have done immediately after his last Bucs game...

The answer is No it does not affect anything in terms of the HOF timing. Reason being is it is a ceremonial signing and the service clock would only change if he were elevated to an Active Roster slot. Gronk would never be elevated for anything. He probably could still box out and catch TDs in the End Zone though if asked.

I assumed that was the case but an active signing makes him "unretired". We're going to see Gronk in Canton regardless!

It is logical to think it how you did. Gronk is obviously a potential 2nd Ballot HOF player. Maybe the NFL will push him to 1st Ballot due to all of his work outside of the NFL to help the game's marketing. Not sure. But I do know that some players get passed over the first time that are much better and hold a bigger legacy + played longer.

I will just assume he is 1st Ballot because that is how things work sometimes. He is definitely living his best life overall. I don't think many people even think about how he came all the way out to Tucson to start his journey, but it is something that Cats fans can all collectively agree to treasure.
