Arizona Vs Hawaii 🏈 Game Preview/Discussion Thread 8/30/25 730pm TNT

The Arizona Wildcats will take on the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors on August 30, 2025, at Arizona Stadium in Tucson, kicking off their season at 7:30 PM MST on TNT. Arizona, looking to rebound from a 4-8 record in 2024, is favored by 13.5 points with a moneyline of -550, while Hawaii, buoyed by a 23-20 Week 0 upset over Stanford, sits at +400. The over/under is set at 56.5 points, reflecting expectations of offensive fireworks. Arizona's passing game, led by quarterback Noah Fifita (2,958 yards, 18 TDs in 2024) and star receiver Tetairoa McMillan (1,319 yards, 8 TDs), will challenge Hawaii's secondary, which allowed 7.2 yards per pass attempt last season.

Meanwhile, Hawaii's run-and-shoot offense, powered by quarterback Micah Alejado (210 yards, 2 TDs vs. Stanford) and receiver Pofele Ashlock (9 catches, 69 yards, 1 TD), aims to exploit Arizona's run defense, which gave up 171.3 yards per game in 2024.Head coach Brent Brennan, in his second year with Arizona, stressed the importance of a fast start, stating, "We're locked in to set the tone at home and execute our game plan." Hawaii's coach Timmy Chang, riding the momentum of their recent win, said, "Our team's got fight, and we're ready to bring it to Tucson." ESPN's Football Power Index gives Arizona an 89.5% chance to win, but Hawaii's 5-2 record against the spread as underdogs in 2024 suggests they could keep it close. Arizona's home struggles (3-3 in 2024) and Hawaii's road grit hint at a potential shootout.

Arizona is favored at 17.5 and the Over/Under is 52.5 points

Obviously lots of questions at TE. We need LT to be solid, especially with a freshman as the backup.

Can't wait for Saturday!

This may surprise some people, but I think we will have a lot of addition by subtraction this season.

It became very clear to me that Noah was not a Power 4 caliber QB last year, but he definitely was a conduit to helping T-Mac get to the NFL. Now that his dividends are likely paid off, I think he will feel more free to spread the ball around and I also think that the coaching staff is going to make an attempt to run the ball this year.

I think our Defense is nothing to write home about, but this is college football and anyone can step up. I believe we will generate pressure and get turnovers. Whether we convert them into points is anyone's guess.

All in all, I actually hope that Brennan chooses to try to Zig while the Big12 Zags.

Try playing some Big10 Style Football in the Big12.

Control both sides of the line of scrimmage.

Run the ball often. Use Noah's mobility on some play action.

Press opponents at LOS with CBs in Man to Man. Blitz.

Be just a little bit Boring and Win some games.

Fifita is solid when he has time to make a play.  Our O-Line let him down last year and prevented him from playing to his potential.

Guys like Wysong are better suited to get open quickly in the slot and I'm intrigued to see how many timing passes we make early in the season (and whether our WR corps is on the same page).

Alejado is a talented QB but his ankle was extremely banged up last week.  He couldn't step into his throws and this will allow our DB's to take advantage of underthrown passes (which are inevitable if we put ANY pressure on the pocket).  Hopefully, this will be a huge confidence booster to Salave'a's D-Line.
