Koa Peat Commits to Arizona: A Homegrown Talent Joins the Wildcats

Gilbert, Arizona's own Koa Peat, a 6-foot-10 power forward and consensus five-star recruit, has committed to the University of Arizona. He announced his commitment on the Pat McAfee show on March 27, 2025. The Perry High School standout, ranked No. 6 in the 2025 class by 247Sports Composite, brings a stellar resume to Tucson: four consecutive state championships and a career total of 2,154 points.

Peat's senior season stats dazzled—18 points, 10 rebounds, 4.9 assists, and 1.6 blocks per game—despite playing through a fractured right hand in the playoffs. His dominance earned him a third straight Gatorade Arizona Player of the Year award and a McDonald's All-American nod. "Koa impacts winning more than any player in the state," said Perry coach Sam Duane Jr. "His performance and leadership make him special."

Choosing Arizona over finalists ASU, Baylor, Houston, and Texas, Peat stays close to home to play under coach Tommy Lloyd. "I'm focused on being a leader and playing my butt off," Peat said after narrowing his list. Wildcats fans can expect a versatile forward with a polished mid-range game and high basketball IQ to elevate the program.

I can't imagine how amazing our lineup could be next year:

Starters:
PG: Bradley
SG: Lewis
SF: Bryant
PF: Peat
C: Veesaar

Rotation:
PG: Martinez
SG: James
SF: Aristode
PF: Awaka
C: Stephen

No idea what Krivas is doing but this lineup is DANGEROUS.  If Burries somehow commits, it would likely be a result of KJ not returning (and likely entering the draft), which would allow for two guys to share ballhandling duties and have an interchangable PG/SG.

Peat is a game-changer and if Carter Bryant sticks around, this team will have a legitimate chance at a Final Four.  We've been recruiting the Peat family to Arizona for years and I'm glad that basketball finally lured in Koa.

Big pickup here, I think koa is a major upgrade at the 4, imagine if we had him against Duke this year maybe we win, felt like we were missing an athletic 4, that could score defend an rebound, big addition to 2025 class, welcome koa.

Now who will replace love at the 2.

KJ can slide to the 2 with James rarely filling in. Bradley would primarily play the SG role if/when Martinez runs the point.

I hope he's not, but I think Bryant is gone. He's not ready for the NBA, but somebody will pay to be able to develop him. Bradley and Lewis are both great, but I think they need another year and I don't think their draft stock is very high (they likely make more money here). I don't think there's room for both Vessar and Krivas and one will likely be gone. Awaka is my favorite player on this team.  If he's an NBA player, it's as a role player. He can definately play overseas though. If he stays, and I really hope he does, he'll have a greatly diminished role. Financially, it probably makes sense for him to go.  ADO has really surprised me with his growth this year, but like Awaka, his role is likely diminished next year (assuming Bradley & Lewis stay). Will he be Ok with that? Will Martinez be OK with being buried on the bench again? If I were as good as he is, I wouldn't be. Stephens, the only place for him next year is the weight room and bench. I can't see him staying unless he red shirts. I agree that it's a stain on Tommy's record that he burned his red shirt for no reason (unless Stephens asked him to).

Here would be my very early projected starting five next season:

Bradley
Portal Free Agent
Bryant
Peat
Krivas OR Veesaar

This group would place Arizona in the top 10 for the majority of the season!
