Arizona Vs Colorado 🏀 Game Preview/Discussion Thread 1/25/25 1pm ESPN+

The Colorado Buffaloes (9-9, 0-7 Big 12) hit the road to take on the Arizona Wildcats (12-6, 6-1 Big 12) on Saturday afternoon in this Colorado vs. Arizona prediction. These teams met twice last season in the Pac-12, with Arizona winning each matchup by at least 20. Colorado just lost at home to BYU 83-67, missing the cover as 5.5-point home dogs. Arizona is fresh off a road win over Oklahoma State 92-78, and covered the spread at 8.5-point favorites.

The first season in the Big 12 has not gone well for the Colorado Buffaloes, as they have lost each of their last seven games. They are the only winless team remaining in conference play, as Kansas State is ahead of them with one win. The Buffaloes beat #2 UConn earlier in the season, but have not been able to repeat that performance in their recent losing streak. In their last game they were led by Julian Hammond III with 17 points in the loss to BYU.

Hammond is the top scorer and playmaker for the Buffaloes with 13.7 PPG and 3.2 APG as a 6'2 senior guard. He is also their top outside shooter with 32 made threes on 39.5% shooting from the outside. Hammond is in his fourth season with Colorado, and recently scored 26 on UCF. Their only other scorer in double figures is Andrej Jakimovski, he is a 6'8 senior forward with 10.2 PPG. Jakimovski can also shoot from the outside as he has 24 made threes on the season, but has scored nine or fewer in his last four games. Elijah Malone is their big man in the middle, he is 6'10 and 270 pounds and contributes 9.6 PPG in the middle.

Colorado is ranked 98th in the nation according to KenPom. They are 141st in offensive efficiency and 78th in defensive efficiency. They play at an average pace, ranking 152nd in tempo. The Big 12 is projected to get nine teams into the NCAA Tournament, but Colorado would not make the cut according to Bracketology.

The Arizona Wildcats are locked in a tight battle at the top of the Big 12 standings. They have one conference loss, which leaves them tied with Iowa State in second place, and they both chase the 7-0 Houston Cougars. They suffered their first conference loss last week on the road at Texas Tech, losing by 16 and only scoring 54 total points. Arizona has beaten three ranked opponents in league play, taking down #16 Cincinnati, #21 West Virginia and #25 Baylor. In their most recent game, they were led by Caleb Love with 27 points in the win over Oklahoma State.

Love was an All-American last season, and is leading the Wildcats this year with 15.6 PPG as a 6'4 senior guard. He is the top shooter on the team with 42 made threes on 44.4% shooting from the outside. Love grabs 4.4 RPG and 2.9 APG, and had a 33 point game earlier in the season against TCU. Jaden Bradley is their next highest scorer on the team, the 6'3 junior guard gets 11.7 PPG and 3.7 APG on the perimeter. Bradley has reached double figures in six of his last seven games. Their final scorer in double figures is KJ Lewis, another 6'4 guard with 10.0 PPG. Their top frontcourt player is 6'6 forward Trey Townsend, he gets 9.8 PPG and collects 4.1 RPG.

Arizona is ranked 17th in the nation according to KenPom. They are 16th in offensive efficiency and 27th in defensive efficiency. They play faster than Colorado, ranking 63rd in pace of play. Arizona is projected to be a 6-seed in the NCAA Tournament in Bracketology.

Arizona is favored at 15.5 points and the Over/Under is 151.5 points

Papa Boyle is dead last in the Big 12. It appears the wheels have fallen off since the departure of Buffs legend Eddie Lampkin. It's a tad rough in Boulder.

KansasCityCats

Yeah, I was somewhat optimistic that they could hang with the Big-12 when they took down Uconn...but after their big win over Bellarmine, the Buffs completely fell apart.  Not sure if they'll win another game this season.

I only caught highlights so I will go off of that and the box score.

Seems like the Tadpole had us neck and neck until about 8min left in the 2nd half. They went cold on offense, we kept scoring. Seems a simple tale of that tape.

I did see a monster block from Carter. Didn't seem like he was allowed to play again, but looked efficient in the Box Score. Maybe this team can't afford to have both Carter and KJ out there together because they both stuff the stat sheet, but if Carter is the better scorer then we need to be using him. Townsend played ok from what I saw.

Really not understanding why Caleb Love is getting 37 Minutes.

There is an ESPN Highlight that is titled "Caleb Love is automatic from 3 point land" .... he was 2-8. I don't know if he hit his first 2, but he is obviously a major hindrance.

We may just be lucky that Colorado is horrible and LOOK, we may even have a favorable schedule by large.

We saw it in the CFP. We saw it in the NFL Playoffs (NFC North 3 teams incredible records, but even the Bears had a pretty good record too). There were some teams that got in based on record and it just showed in the end that when they played the tougher opponent's they lost.

If we can snap off wins, then it really doesn't matter. I don't expect to win the Big12, but the closer we get to 20 wins the better at this point. I can see us going 6-6 the rest of the way, so anything better than that is house money.

Blah, blah, and more blah. You don't know what the hell you are talking about. Yet again another biased and opinionated post.

No one forced you to read it.

Yet everything I say seems to come to fruition in 1 way or another. Go figure.

Use 2 minutes and come up with your own Sports Opinions rather than breaking the actual forum rules of personally attacking me for mine.

My "blah blah blah" comment to you is just don't read my comments.

Really felt like we lacked intensity overall and could have blown Colorado out but still solid down the stretch.

Jaden needs to try to dunk on people earlier in the game. He seemed to be cruising by and then, oh wow... Give it to the fans man.

Tobe had a great game. He covered so much ground and held down the glass. I don't think we win without him.

Tony rolled to the right spots and let it fly. Great work by him yesterday.

Carter is just smooth. He had troubles yesterday. Seemed to be out of place a lot. But the game looked like it has slowed down on offense for him and his upside is ridiculous.

Colorado switching between the 2-3 and 3-2 gave us some fits. We had a hard time getting it to the top of key and never got it behind them despite several opportunities. Just keep getting hung up on perimeter long enough for them to recover. As a team, just had a hard time consistently being in sync and collectively recognizing and switching. We still have a hard time keeping teams from driving right up the middle. You get a 6ft floater, and you and you and you. Everyone please join in.

Caleb has consistency concerns but I think the building of the rest of team may still be a priority there. Throws up enough to keep the other teams honest but isn't taking over the game much like we know he can. Hopefully it all pulls together at right time.

Fair win that could have been dynamic.

Good analysis. Very fair write up. This one was enjoyable to read. Firm yet fair. This team is at a point where I personally am not looking for a quality of win. I am at the point where "a win is a win is a win". We just need to keep stacking W's however possible.

It is truly a race to 20-22 wins if we want any sort of respect. 20 in the regular season would be a really nice number to hit for all we have been going through.
