Arizona Vs Colorado 🏀 Game Preview/Discussion Thread 2/10/24 8pm ESPN

The Arizona Wildcats and Colorado Buffaloes face off on Saturday in a college basketball showdown at the Coors Events Center.

Arizona Coming off Triple Overtime Win
Arizona comes into this game off a triple overtime win over the Utah Utes. In the second half of that game the defense gave up 51 points and that led to the defeat. Pelle Larsson had a strong game putting up 27 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds. Arizona is averaging 89.7 points while their defense is giving up 73.2 points per game. The offense is ranked 2nd in the league while the defense is ranked 229th. Caleb Love has been the top player and is averaging 18.9 points while shooting 43.2 percent from the field and 33.7 percent from behind the three point line.

Colorado Coming off a Big Win
Colorado in the last game faced off against Arizona State and they were able to secure the 82-70 victory. J'Vonne Hadley put up 19 points and 11 rebounds. Colorado is averaging 80.7 points while their defense is giving up 71.2 points per game. The offense is ranked 40th but in this game it's going to come down to the defense. If the defense struggles this is going to be a very long game. KJ Simpson is averaging 19.4 points while shooting 49.7 percent from the field and 44.7 percent from behind the three point line. Colorado will play against UCLA after this one.

BDU's Free Pick
Arizona is coming off the triple overtime game and those extra 15 minutes is going to make them have tired legs. Colorado is averaging 80.7 & Arizona is will struggle to defend here. I'm going with Arizona to cover the spread in a nail biter.

Colorado is favored at -1.5 and the Over/Under is 159

Boswell ran the show and everybody except KJ (who was called for some serious BS) contributed. Love the effort after the initial 8-2 debacle.

Huuuuuge road sweep for the Cats.

A very high quality win in what appears to be a very bad matchup for Colorado overall. They had 1 mismatch on us (De Silva) and we had the rest. I think if I am Tommy Lloyd right now, I am giving praise to a very well played road trip, but I am also keeping in mind that we could have blown this game very easily. The coaching was sub-par tonight. I think Tommy played with his food in the 2nd half. There was ample time when Colorado was hovering around down 15 or so where Colorado just didn't hit that 1 inspiring 3pt shot to make it quasi-believable. Leaving Conrad in there a little too long at one point probably prevented us from a 30pt win and 110pts.

The devil is always in the details. Love had one of those "nononono YES" type of nights. Bradley's 27 minutes were all the difference for me. Boswell seems to have been told by Tommy that it is shape up or ship out because he really seemed to buy into not leading the team anymore and playing within himself. Bradley is the swag that needs to play with Love most often.

I would be tempted to give Pelle the game ball of the road trip, but this time I will give it to Ballo. He turned his level up somehow. I don't know how he's doing it right now, but it could have to do with Bradley being out there and Boswell not dictating the way we play.

Pelle is our unsung hero for sure. I would say he is our leader, but we all know that it is Caleb Love. However, if we want to go anywhere it will be on the wings of Pelle to fly high. I think he has figured out that he is better than most of his competition. His drives to the rim and fearlessness showed through this weekend.

All in all I would grade this road trip an A-

Must keep this momentum. Not sure who thought it was cool to schedule games so far apart all season. The next game is ASU in a week?

We don't need this much rest, but I want to see us continue this energy. This is what I have been advocating for. Putting it together over a 10 game stretch without flinching. The next 5 out of 7 games are at home or as far away as @ASU. We cannot allow anyone to come into our territory and win.

Everyone is desperate now - not that they haven't been, but we're entering the End Game now.

Conrad is a 20/20 player. We were up by or close to 20 at the time. Had some unfortunate foul trouble and playing in Colorado shortly after a 3OT thriller.

Choosing to trust his guys, by keeping Conrad and Krivas out there until the under 8 so our main guys can come in rested and without worse foul trouble to close it out was exactly the thing to do, even with hindsight. I hope Martinez specifically gets more time down the stretch.

Anyway, I'm not sure what Tommy would need to do to get you to give him his due credit.

Bradley does deserve more minutes. His top end athleticism on defense isn't as high as Boswell or Lewis, but he is easily the smartest defender on the team. His instincts, anticipation, and discipline are next level, far beyond the rest of the guys.

Pelle was outstanding. He might need to dial back a bit of the shit talking, but it clearly gives him an edge.

Ballo has looked like a totally new man since he started growing the beard. He looked more athletic and more conditioned in two games where the opposite is the expectation. It defies physics and biology.

Overall, the guys really played like they wanted it. No doubt about it. That was the biggest step forward on this trip.

I have no problem at all with seeing Krivas get his minutes. I just don't think Tommy has set him up for success this season and I don't see any point to have Dylan Red Shirting unless Dylan demanded it.
