I'm hearing one of the main reasons Haarms is leaving Purdue is because he wants to get the green light to shoot 3's. We have seen Miller allowed Ayton to shoot 3's, but he did not allow Nnaji to do so. This could make things interesting.
These are going to be some bigs IFs here but...

IF Haarms wants to shoot it from deep, that needs to be Miller's primary pitch.
IF you show you can shoot it in practice, then you will have to green light to let it fly in game.
Forget trying to sell him on starting, this seems to be the key right here.
What IF he shows up here and cannot shoot from deep at all, then what, do you let him shoot anyway because that is how you sold him, or do you tell him no and run the risk of him negatively recruiting against you and the program because you "promised" him something that you never allowed him to do?

Again, very big IFs in this scenario...

Then you sit his ass. Is that really a question? Look at hazzard this year. He couldn't defend so he got no minutes. 5th year senior or not, if you can't do your job then it doesn't really matter what you got "sold" on.

Also a transfer senior that's trying to make a case for a draft pick (which is why he wants the green light to shoot) that has 30 top schools contact him isn't going somewhere that he isn't going to start. Koloko is a 4 year player don't let anyone tell you different

Haarms made a fair amount of 3s at Purdue I cant remember how many but I read it.

He was 18-64 from 3 over his three years at Purdue

I watched Haarms a few times last year - and all I thought was 'he has nice hair.'

No matter how he played, every hair stayed in place. Ha.

You could get dangerously wasted if you took a drink every time he adjusts his hair during the game. Drove me nuts when we played them a few years ago. After that, I couldn't focus on anything else when I saw Purdue games.

It's his way of distracting other players.

I graduated from Purdue. I follow The Boilers. No where in the same league as Zona, but I watch all the games I can/receive group text messages each game from my college friends. I've watched Haarms play many games.

I didn't think he was much of anything besides size as a Freshman. He took a big leap from his freshman to sophomore year. Improvements were his offensive game, strength, and defensive post game. Sophomore and Junior years we're relatively the same.

Haarms big strengths are his defense, hustle, and the amount of energy he gives. I had a buddy that was almost annoyed by the energy. Whether it was a great play by another teammate, his own dunk, a blocked shot, etc. Haarms would be screaming let's go, hit both hands on the floor, scream "ahhhhhhh".  I have to say that I loved it and it fired me up almost. His defensive game is a difference maker. He is a great shot blocker. Timing, obedience, all of the above.  He also is tough. He plays tough and will piss his opponents off. Not a bad passer. Doesn't turn it over all that much in the post.

His weaknesses are offensively he doesn't give that much but had times he got going throughout an entire game. His shot wasn't great. He has a good post game.  He also lacks stamina. He would only play around 20 min a game. He leaves it all on the court so he tires easy.

I think he's a good fit for next season. He cut his hair last year so you might not have to worry about that.

Thought I'd share my take with the amount of times I saw him play.

A side note: none of my friends sent me a bummer text message that Matt Haarms was transferring.
