I don't agree with the point of this article. Snyder was an anomaly. K-State is unlike any other program because it's impossible to recruit to Manhattan, KS. I personally think Snyder is one of the greatest football coaches of all time for overachieving. Similar to Lute, he built a program from scratch.

Recruiting JUCO players is generally a sign of desperation because the coach needs to "win now". David Beatty didnit at KU to try and keep his job while winning 3-4 games per year.

If you pull in JC kids, you're not only telling your young players that they aren't good enough...you're earning future recruits that you wouldn't hesitate to replace them with short term solutions.

I love a lot of the JC kids that's Stoops brought in (specifically on the line), but you can't make it a recruiting habit.

While I agree with  most of what you say here KC the fact that filling holes/needs that way can help like in the case of PJ Johnson, and Boles before that. Yes we have younger guys on roster and they may feel that way, but depth is not there behing them and so we pulled a couple more JC guys this year. Very few freshmen start on the Line in the P5 conferences. Looking at what our former coaches did with JCs as well supports what I am saying. However, while neither Smith nor  Tomey were able to sustain a three year run at any point where we could compete. It does not stop other programs with solid upper classmen in front of them from getting top recruits. Just to add this as well, if Alabama thought they could benefit from a JC they would take one now. It is about the here and now. Coaches have one or two average to bad years and boom they are gone.
RR had off field issues, but took us to more bowl games than any other coach and our onky PAC South Title. He is gone and other things contributed but point is made.

Also the point that I am NO fan of Hansen!

Well Hansen is wrong again because he trying to shift narrative that Sumlin will have better success than RR ever did when it come to JUCO recruiting. That fact he mention that RR 6 season he only brought 11 JUCO recruits? Hansen is wrong again. RR recruit a total of 18 JUCO in 6 years.

Now how many of them were burst according to Hansen of total 6? Uh, None and here why?

Jesse Scoggin never play a down
Adam Friederichen Never play and left the program.
Antonio Smothers He only play on Special Team and was buried in Depth Chart.
Jeff Wordy I dont remember but i think he got hurt and had to quit football.
Kaige Lawerence I dont remember much about him I think he was more of a back up.
Jerod Cody, I believe he quit football due to injuries.
Patrick Clover He got buried in the Depth Chart, never play
Anthony Futu He play one 1 game and got suspend and kick off the team the next day.
Timmy Hamilton, He commit UA and left the program all in one week.
Matt Morin, He was more a blocking TE.
Maisen Knight, I dont really know if he play this season or not. He was the Late grab during 16 season.
Sione Tuafahema I believe he couldnt make weight and pretty much never play.
Josh Allen The number 2 JUCO DT That couldn't get into UA because he failed a test

Yes JC recruiting is more hit and miss than HS because they are expected to make an immediate impact. If they cannot then they are bust.

BDFC

Four JUCO  commits, four lineman, beefy guys. I don't see a problem adding some size and depth out of the JUCO ranks, at least till Sumlin can get the recruiting where he wants it. Too many JUCOs is a failure with recruiting, in my mind.
