Little George

Little comparison for the first 5 years of our recent coaches.

Larry Smith 1980-1986 went 31-22-2 over his first 5 years. (48-28-3 total for 7 years.)
No Bowls first 5 years (2 bowls 1 win 1 loss) Were not many bowl games back then but would have been bowl eligible 4 of the first 5 years.
Best season was his 7th year at 9-3. Highest rank was 3rd in his 4th season.

Dick Tomey 1987-2000 went 30-24-3 over his first 5 years. (95-64-4 over 12 years)
2 bowls his first 5 years. 1 win and 1 loss. Would have been eligible for 1 more.
Best seasons 1989 8W 4L, 1993 10W 2L, 1998 12W 1L
Highest ranking 1998 was 4th. Finished the season 4th. Followed by a 6-6 seaon and a 5-6 season.

We did not field a team from 2001-2003 in my opinion.

Mike Stoops. I will not count his first two years against him due to his inheriting an average HS team. He did go 3-8 each of those seaons. Not included in Stoop's numbers though.
Mike went 34-29 in his first 5 seasons. Things fell apart after an affair and messy divorce. He was fired midway through his 8th season.
3 bowl games 1W 2L. Highest rank of 9th early in his 5th season. (7th over all)

Rich Rod went 36-29 in 5 seasons
4 straight bowl games (first time ever at Arizona) 3W 1L
Highest rank was 8 in 2014.
