Ivan Kharchenkov announces he is returning to Arizona!

Ivan Kharchenkov is set to make a strong return to Arizona next season, providing a vital anchor for the Wildcats as they rebuild following their impressive 2025-26 campaign that included a Final Four run. The 6'7" German-Russian forward, who just completed his freshman year at the University of Arizona, opted not to enter the 2026 NBA Draft and will return for his sophomore season alongside center Motiejus Krivas. In his debut college season, the Munich native started all 39 games, averaging 10.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.4 steals per game while shooting 49.2% from the field. His versatile skill set—combining size, athleticism, switchable defense, and efficient scoring—made him a quiet but foundational piece in Tommy Lloyd's rotation, and fans in Tucson are excited to see him take on an even larger role with more experience and leadership as Arizona reloads with transfers and new freshmen.

I was most excited to see Ivan out of the 2025/26 Freshman and glad to see him returning.

Best two defenders from the Final Four team are back. Love it!

Nice!
Now that Kharchenkov is back, there is a glaring hole in this starting lineup at PF.
No, Kharchenkov does not and should not slide down to PF.
Lloyd needs to go out and find a starting PF, a C2 and if he decides to go to a nine-man rotation?
Go out and find a PF2 as well.

I am fine with promoting James into that 3ND SG role that is vacated by Dell'Orso.
I am also fine with Holmes with filling that 2/3 role and James being on ice (again) while he continues to develop with what I hope to be Mawut as well.

Is it fair to say that the offseason has been a disappointment for my t. lloyd?

No, because it isn't over.  If Arizona finds another late international addition (like Kharchenkov last season), specifically at PF, the Cats will be set for next season.  If Peat magically returns for a sophomore year, the staff could find a backup Center and would be extremely deep at every position.

If the roster is currently done...then yes, you can be disappointed.

Tommy has underperformed the market. Currently.

Tommy has a track record of adding players late in the process.

Tommy is clearly waiting for NBA Draft Opt Outs and doing Foreign League Scouting.

Tommy.

Could be taking a chance, to see if a PF like Momcilovic opts out of the draft. Arizona could offer him serious money.

Up to this point, some can say that.
I say no because Lloyd managed to sign Dixon/Mandaquit and got Kharchenkov/Krivas to return.
I will also say that the clock has not run out on Lloyd and this off-season just yet.
For me, getting Kharchenkov/Krivas to return was a HUGE win for Arizona.
I believe Dixon/Mandaquit are going to be an upgrade over Bradley next season.
