Quote from: mvpreed2 on April 11, 2026, 05:40:30 AMI forget what game it was, but Gueye had a block where his hand was ABOVE the square on the backboard!

Idk if we're thinking of the same one, but I remember the one @ Houston. Ball was 12 ft in the air and he sent it back. I never have seen a highlight clip of it since.
I cannot remember what game it was!
(Going back through my notes)
Yes, it was one of those Houston games.
Here was my note on it:

QuoteMy guy Gueye with the block! Did you see how high he got up? He blocked that ABOVE the square! Krivas is not doing that! Lloyd has to find ways to get him more minutes!

I did all of that lobbying for nothing lol!

Quote from: mvpreed2 on April 11, 2026, 05:40:30 AMThis is why I have always called for Lloyd to extend his rotation to at least nine bodies, or have two rotational bigs.

9 Players, you and me both...

But Tommy isn't That Dude.

Not "Him"

We will only ever get 7 guys out of Tommy with a token 8th for the emergency role (which was Aristode this year).

This whole thing is Par for the Course. Over-recruiting, under-delivering on all around young player development. Great with guys who have been in College before though.
I can say that you were also on that boat with me and a few others about extending the rotation.
You pull that stuff when you CANNOT use anyone else on your bench.
It accelerates the development of the ones that play, but drastically stunts the development of the ones that don't because the only time they get reps is in practice and that controlled and monitored.

Between Gueye, and I would even threw in James as a 10th man, I would have played them.
I get why you put James on ice, but if James is not cemented in the rotation next season?
The redshirt was pointless and you should have played him last season.

I personally think that Stephen was more talented that Gueye (as freshmen).

Lloyd doesn't likely to play kids, who aren't ready for D-1 basketball. It's a harsh lesson but it typically pays off, when they get a year of practice against a consistent Top-10 team and bulk up under Rounds.

Lebron refused to allow Bryce to play.

Coming from a Booster Circle, Bryce had an entourage around him at all times. Wouldn't even sign things at the big events.

He was simply not going to play.

Tommy has loaded up now. Makes me wonder if Bryce may skip the process and go pro to go undrafted and be signed like Bronny at this point.

JJ the Man
Holt
Ivan
Aristode?
Krivas?

Dixon
Holmes

James?

All small kids really.

Just need to acknowledge that this was a 1 off season. We won't be 36-3 or whatever again. But we can still strive to try to contend for whatever we can.

Big12 Title
Big12 Banner
Madness run... maybe Sweet 16 as a long shot this time.

Need at least 1 more Big Man to get 25+  Minutes since Koa is 102% gone from my POV.

I still like Reibe.

The Iowa St kid is unlikely for me.

Tommy can also hit up Europe for a couple of skilled Ogres to come over.

Sidi is not good enough to play at Arizona tbh, but he has athleticism.

Tommy isn't done.

But he really only needs 8 guys the way he coaches.

Now that some things have been settled, this is how I believe things will play out:

Dixon
Holt
Kharchenkov
EMPTY
Krivas

Mandaquit
Holmes
EMPTY

I hope Tiller fills that PF spot in the starting lineup.
As for the bench roles, I guess Lloyd can go overseas to fill those, but I really hope he goes nine-deep to allow himself more versatility instead of forcing Kharchenkov to slide to the PF spot in a pinch.
Just go and get two bigs and allow Holmes to play the SG/SF in the second unit and Dixon could play the SG in the second unit whenever Mandaquit comes in and Holt comes out.

Too bad I wish sidi stayed put, he obviously needs alot strength an weight, has alot potential there, love his athleticism, shot blocking potential, not sure if he was ready to be the backup  center, he kinda reminded me of Emmanuel stephen, guys just don't wanna be patient, best of luck to sidi.

I am beginning to believe that Lloyd has a C development problem.
Since he has been here, there has been a mass departure of high upside bigs that are not willing to sit and wait their turn.

I will NOT give him Koloko since he was a Miller leftover.
I WILL give him Krivas.
Stephen and now Gueye is on his jacket.
I believe Gueye was better, and he showed more (to me) but Stephen was C3 and should have been a redshirt.
Gueye was C2 and should have been given way more minutes as opposed to sitting him as much as he did.

I will be interested in seeing where he goes and how he develops.
Most that leave Arizona transfer and step into bigger roles at their new programs.

Gueye and Stephen has no business being on the floor as true freshmen, unless the Cats had significant leads.

It's hard to find bigs, who are open to sitting on the bench. They could earn mid-major PT...and both opted for that alternative, in lieu of being patient and earning a role with a major program.

Veesaar developed as well as Krivas, Ballo and Koloko. Regardless of whether Koloko was originally Miller's guy, Lloyd's staff bulked him up and converted him into an elite center overnight.

Stephen as C3 did not.
There were plenty of games were Gueye could have seen respectable minutes in games that were not blowouts.
4-6mins/game for him would have a lot more for him than being on ice and playing hot potato with Awaka/Krivas when both were in foul trouble.

I forgot about Ballo, but he came from Gonzaga with Lloyd, so he already had his hands on him.
I am only referring to someone Lloyd has developed at Arizona since he has been here.
You are free to count Koloko/Veesaar if you want to, but I am not as both were Miller leftovers.
I am still down to Krivas on my list.

The point is that Gueye practices against future NBA players...and gets to bulk up under the best facilities with Chris Rounds.

The kid has a better chance of succeeding in Tucson. Unfortunately, he can't do that immediately.
