Arizona Vs Kansas 🏀 Game Preview/Discussion Thread 2/28/26 at 2pm ESPN

The No. 2 Arizona Wildcats (26-2, 13-2 Big 12) welcome the No. 14 Kansas Jayhawks (21-7, 11-4) to McKale Center on Saturday, February 28, for a 3 p.m. CT showdown on ESPN. Arizona sits atop the conference standings after an 87-80 road win at Baylor on Feb. 24, while Kansas is tied for second following a gritty 69-56 victory over Houston. The stakes are high for both: the Wildcats are chasing a top overall seed for the NCAA Tournament, and the Jayhawks remain mathematically alive in the title hunt with three games left. This is the second meeting of the season after Kansas stunned then-No. 1 Arizona 82-78 on Feb. 9 in Lawrence, handing Tommy Lloyd's squad its first loss and snapping a 23-game win streak. Arizona leads the all-time series 10-5 against Kansas but is just 2-1 in Tucson.

Arizona has been a offensive machine all year, averaging 87.2 points per game on 50.3% shooting while holding opponents to 68.9 points. They dominate the glass with a 43.2 rebounds per game average (outrebounding foes by nearly 12 boards) and dish out 17.4 assists. Brayden Burries leads the way at 15.5 points per game, with Jaden Bradley adding 13.9 points and 4.7 assists, Koa Peat chipping in 13.8 points and 5.4 rebounds, and center Motiejus Krivas anchoring the paint with 10.6 points and 8.4 boards. Kansas, coached by Bill Self, plays at a slower pace but gets it done defensively, allowing just 68.2 points on 38.5% opponent shooting. Darryn Peterson has been the standout at 19.5 points per game (in his 17 appearances), supported by Flory Bidunga's 14.2 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 2.8 blocks per game, Tre White at 14.0 points, and Melvin Council Jr. running the show with strong assist numbers.

McKale Center figures to be rocking for what could be one of the loudest home atmospheres of the season, and Arizona will look to avenge that early February loss while protecting its slim lead in the Big 12. Kansas has shown it can hang with anyone when its veteran pieces click—Bidunga's rim protection and Peterson's scoring punch Tough, but the road has been tougher, and Arizona's depth and home dominance make this a tall order. Expect a physical battle in the paint and plenty of threes from both sides (Arizona at 35.7%, Kansas at 35.6%). A Wildcats win would all but clinch the regular-season title; anything less keeps the conference race fascinating down the stretch.

This is clearly the biggest game of the year. Win...and there's no way Arizona is losing the conference title. Lose...and there will be significant pressure to beat a solid Iowa state team at home.

"Kansas has shown it can hang with anyone when its veteran pieces click—Bidunga's rim protection and Peterson's scoring punch were huge in the first matchup—"

Peterson did not play in the first matchup.  AI/ChatGTP is going to doom us.

Yeah, I started to read the summary and quit when it threw Peat into the statistical mix.

Arizona needs to force Kansas to take outside shots. White and Tiller are the only real threats from the perimeter. If our bigs can get to the line, we should cruise to a win. If ku's frontcourt remains relevant, Budunga and Tiller will keep the score close.

Arizona outrebounded KU 48-26. It's the largest margin KU has been outrebounded since at least 1988-89
