Arizona Vs Kansas St 🏈 Game Preview/Discussion Thread 9/12/25 6pm FOX

The Arizona Wildcats (2-0) are primed to host the No. 25 Kansas State Wildcats (1-1) on Friday, September 12, 2025, at Arizona Stadium in Tucson, with a 7:00 p.m. MST kickoff on FOX. Coming off a commanding 48-3 rout of Weber State on September 6, despite a two-hour lightning delay, Arizona showcased its offensive firepower, led by quarterback Noah Fifita's 353 yards and five touchdowns. Wide receiver Javin "Nunu" Whatley stole the show with four catches for 134 yards, including 31-yard and 85-yard touchdown strikes, stepping up as the go-to target in the absence of NFL-drafted Tetairoa McMillan. Arizona's defense was relentless, limiting Weber State to 184 yards and forcing two turnovers, highlighted by cornerback Jay'Vion Cole's 27-yard pick-six. "We stayed locked in despite the delay," linebacker Max Harris said. "That focus is what we'll bring against Kansas State." Yet, Arizona's 10 penalties for 80 yards, including two negated touchdowns, could prove costly against a disciplined Kansas State squad that dominated them 31-7 in 2024.

Kansas State, stinging from a 24-21 loss to Army, will rely on running back DJ Giddens (249 yards per game, 5.8 yards per carry) and dual-threat quarterback Avery Johnson (156 passing yards, 38.5 rushing yards per game) to challenge Arizona's run defense, which held Weber State to 64 yards but struggled against Kansas State's 235 rushing yards last year. Arizona's pass rush, averaging 6.5 sacks per game, aims to rattle Johnson, while Kansas State's front (8.5 sacks per game) could pressure Fifita. "Fifita's precision is dangerous, but we'll pound the rock to wear them down," Kansas State coach Chris Klieman said. Arizona coach Brent Brennan stressed discipline: "We've got to play clean to match their intensity." With Arizona's electric home crowd and Whatley's big-play potential, this clash promises fireworks. The Arizona Daily Star projects a nail-biting 34-30 Kansas State victory, but if Fifita and Whatley ignite early and the defense bottles up Giddens, Arizona could unleash a statement upset, sending a message to the college football world under the Tucson lights.

Kansas St is favored at -2.5 and the Over/Under is 54.5 points

Will Arizona Football keep their college playoff hopes alive?

I get that Arizona doesn't run a triple option typically and shouldn't, but when K State looked hapless against it last week against Army I hope the staff runs it sparingly as a wrinkle to keep the defense on their heels.

Exactly.  I think Doege will give the green light to Fifita on the ground.  If Noah sees ANY openings, he'll take off and expose their secondary, which has been pretty awful over the past two games (again undersized opponents).

Avery poses the same problem for Arizona's D...so I'm hoping that our front seven can keep him in the pocket and force contested throws.  If either QB runs free, it'll be a high scoring game.  Otherwise, turnovers will be the difference.
