Arizona Vs Stanford 🏀 Game Preview/Discussion Thread 12/31/23 At 2pm PAC12N

The Arizona Wildcats and the Stanford Cardinal meet Sunday in college basketball action from Maples Pavilion. Arizona is currently 10-2 this year and coming off a win over California on Friday. As for Stanford, they're fresh off a loss to Arizona State which pushed the Cardinal to 5-6 on the season. Let's get into our Arizona vs. Stanford prediction.

Arizona Wildcats
The Wildcats were able to win eight straight games to start the year, taking out Morgan State, Duke, Southern, Belmont, TX-Arlington, Michigan State, Colgate and Wisconsin. After losses to Purdue and Florida Atlantic over the next three games, Arizona took out California on Friday in their latest appearance.

Matched up against California, the Wildcats stormed out to a 54-26 halftime lead. Arizona was outscored 55-46 from there but held on for the win 100-81. Leading the way was Caleb Love on 22 points and four rebounds. Oumar Ballo added a double-double on 17 points and 11 boards as well.

Stanford Cardinal
Over on the Stanford side, they started out the year on a pretty solid 3-1 clip with a lone loss to Santa Clara in that time. The Cardinal have faltered on a 2-5 stretch since then, however. The losses have come to Arkansas, Michigan, Northern Iowa, San Diego State and Arizona State.

In the Arizona State game on Friday, Stanford had control in the first half with a 37-28 edge. The Cardinal faded from there on a 48-36 run however, and ended up losing 76-73. Maxime Raynaud doubled up on 15 points and 15 rebounds in the loss, and Brandon Angel added 15 points with five boards.

BDU's Free Pick
The Wildcats were able to cruise past California in their latest matchup, hitting a nice 59.3 percent from the field with 45 rebounds and 17 team assists. The 15 turnovers were just about the only blemish in that victory, which was a nice bounce-back after a couple of tough losses in the previous three outings. Arizona has scored well all year, with 74 or more points in every game.

As for Stanford, they've been a mixed bag since early November and highly inconsistent when it comes to scoring. I don't think the Cardinal will have the legs to cover in this one, though they may be able to hit the 70-point mark. Take Arizona and the money line for the free money.

Arizona is favored at 12.5 and the Over/Under is 161

Good stat. I figured it was an all-time clunker of some sort. Tommy isn't Him. He is very scared ever since Purdue slapped the taste out of his cocky mouth.

"Purdue and Edey haven't seen Arizona yet!!!"

Famous last words.

Last words?  Was Purdue our last opponent or did we just forget about the part three games, I bc using a win against Nate Oats, who slapped our team around in the postseason a few years back?

Not sure what you are trying to defend here. The honor of Arizona Basketball has been besmirched. Tommy is not feared. Teams enjoy playing Arizona. We let them play their games against us and sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. We did nothing to stop your hero Nate Oats' system. They just started missing shots. When you wonder how a team like Stanford can get off so many 3's look no further. When your strategy is to just allow anything to happen to you and hope they miss, you will lose more often than expected.

PS - One thing I take personal offense to here is when people get angry when we lose as if these other kids are not good enough to be D1 players. There might be over 1000+ kids that play in toto, but that is 1000+ of the best in the world at this age range. These players are all good enough to hit an open shot at any given time. I would caution to stop disrespecting opponents and to start looking at our program and players within who are not being lead properly to the standard we have come to expect.

Prior to yesterday, Stanford was 113th in 3-point percentage. They jumped to 37th after one hot day. They doubled their average and the Cardinal players weren't completely open. They deserve credit for a great game but don't have the athleticism of most Pac-12 schools.

As Tommy said, Stanford could have made 6 less 3's and still won by 2. It was a thorough ass whoopin. Run out of the gym by the most unathletic team in your book. Lol.

Stanford's shooting was abysmal in their win against ucla tonight.

WIDE open threes, easy put-backs and  runners in the lane. The Cardinal couldn't hit anything, although their defense and FT shooting were stellar.

We'll continue to get everybody's "best" throughout the season, which will hopefully help when the postseason rolls around.

Sorry, but it won't help us if we are losing to everyone's best. And UCLA might be the biggest joke in the entire Conference. I remember all the toxic cbox'ers so scared of Gollum getting Mara. He hasn't done a single thing, but I suspect he will take Ballo to church when the time comes.

In the end, Stanford out played UCLA at their own game then pulled ahead with a little bit of their game as it became clear UCLA couldn't run with them. And they are not that fast. They made us look slow. Something isn't adding up?

Let's see what we do vs Colorado because they will be coming for us big time. This is not play time anymore.
