Does having the #1 overall seed really matter?

Historically, almost 80% of No. 1 overall seeds advance to the Elite Eight, compared to the ~69% average for all No. 1 seeds.

Conversely, despite making deep runs, the No. 1 overall seed has struggled to win the title recently. Since 2013, only one No. 1 overall seed (Louisville) has won the national championship.

I do not believe the #1 overall seed matters.
I believe being the #1 seed in your region goes a longer way than being the top seed.

Your travel is shorter, if you have to travel!
More of your fans will travel since you are going to be cemented out West until the Final Four.
If/when Arizona gets that #1 seed out West, here is where they should end up playing:

1st Round: San Diego
2nd Round: San Diego
Sweet 16: San Jose
Elite Eight: San Jose
Final Four: Indianapolis
Nat'l Championship: Indianapolis

By the time you get to the Final Four, the matchups are going to be as even as possible unless you have a Cinderella get caught fire a la NC State.
Lock up the West, and worry about the rest of that later..

Agreed that location and matchups are more important than the top overall seed.

Personally, I'd prefer to be a #2 seed with Virginia or Purdue as the #3 in our region, in lieu of being a #1 with somebody like Michigan state, Illinois or Gonzaga as the #4...

Doesn't the committee do like a snake selection type of thing?
In theory, wouldn't that mean that Arizona would get the worse 2nd/4th seeds and the top 3rd seed?

Yes. I'm just throwing out examples of matchups that would be advantageous to Arizona. Virginia racked up wins against a weak ACC.

The Cats should be a top seed, regardless of the next few games. I'm hoping we see a soft road to the Final Four. With Peat and Aristode at 100%, Arizona has a real chance to earn its second title.

They should, but you know they don't

They seem to like to stack brackets some years.
