The Arizona Wildcats men's basketball program welcomed a dynamic addition to its coaching staff with the hiring of Brandon Chappell as assistant coach, replacing the retiring Steve Robinson. Chappell, a 41-year-old Texas native, brings a wealth of experience and a reputation as a top recruiter from his three seasons at the University of Texas, where he helped the Longhorns achieve three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, including an Elite Eight run in 2022-23. His tenure at Texas, under coaches Chris Beard and Rodney Terry, saw the team win the Big 12 Tournament in 2022-23, with Chappell's recruiting prowess landing high-caliber talent. Prior stops include UNLV (2021-22), Lamar (2017-21), and Northern Arizona (2014-16) as a graduate assistant under current Arizona associate head coach Jack Murphy, forging a connection that likely influenced his move to Tucson. "It is exciting to welcome Brandon and his family to the Arizona Basketball family," head coach Tommy Lloyd said, praising Chappell's high-character energy and cultural fit.

Brandon Chappell's recruiting prowess has earned him a stellar reputation, making him a pivotal addition to Arizona's coaching staff. During his three seasons at Texas (2022-25), Chappell was instrumental in securing top-tier talent, contributing to the Longhorns' consistent NCAA Tournament appearances, including an Elite Eight run in 2022-23. His ability to identify and attract high-caliber players was evident at UNLV (2021-22), where he orchestrated a roster overhaul by bringing in nine transfers, including All-Mountain West performers Bryce Hamilton and Donovan Williams, transforming the team into an 18-14 squad—the program's best record in four years. Chappell's deep ties in Texas high school basketball, honed from his playing days at Lamar and coaching stints at Lamar (2017-21), give him a unique edge in building relationships with prospects. His recruiting success, combined with a keen eye for player development, positions him to help bolster Arizona's roster with dynamic talent for years to come.

Beyond his coaching resume, Chappell's journey is filled with compelling stats and fun facts. A Lamar University graduate, he played from 2003-07, ranking among the program's all-time leaders with 140 three-pointers made and a .394 three-point shooting percentage, showcasing his sharpshooting roots. After college, Chappell played professionally in Germany's Pro A League for five seasons (2007-12) with teams like BBC Bayreuth and TV Langen, adding an international flair to his profile. His recruiting skills shone at UNLV, where he helped overhaul the roster with nine transfers, including All-Mountain West honorees Bryce Hamilton and Donovan Williams, leading to an 18-14 record in 2021-22, the program's best in four years. A fun tidbit: Chappell grew up in Beaumont, Texas, alongside NBA champion Kendrick Perkins, his high school teammate at Ozen High. With his recruiting expertise and player development skills, Chappell is poised to help Arizona maintain its championship tradition, as he expressed: "It's an honor to be part of such a storied program."

Good hire. Sad to see Coach Rob retire but he deserves some time with the fam after a long, successful career.

Recruiting won't slow down anytime soon!
