Agree here. Since we are now officially a Football school with Basketball long behind us on the island of relevancy, it is worth diving into these thoughts.

Quote from: Little George on December 26, 2023, 08:34:46 PMTo answer some questions we have already had about perhaps the most important position on the offense.

The OL will return five starters next year, but obviously not Jordan Morgan. Remember that Leif Magnuson started a number of games already this season. We will likely see Joseph Borjon start this week against Oklahoma. Where the players line up will be another story. Big Jonah Savaiinaea could start at RG, RT, or LT. I am hearing that Raymond Pulido could start RG, RT easily, and maybe LT. Robert Borjon could start at either side at OT. Leif Magnuson could start at RG. Bottom line is we think it will be Pulido and Borjon on the right side and Jonah at LT. No surprises here right? Versatility is something this staff cherishes. They place such a high value on the ability to play multiple positions along the O and D lines. So basically we will get a preview of next years starting OL? IDK about that. We have some young guys that are working very hard to be in position to start next year. Both Elijah Payne and Rhino Tapa'atoutai will both be much stronger by next fall with some experience in the system to boot.

Next year could be special for sure. We will likely have three OL guys in the draft. Well, at least two. Baker will be a senior and both Savaiinaea and Moe will be draft eligible. Getting these younger guys in and up to speed will be critical in the long term health of this build.

IF either Elijah or Rhino can take control of the LT position, our right side would be Pulido and Savaiinaea next year. That is some real power right there.

Guys like Stovall, Gonzalez, Hand, Magnuson, and a few others will need to ready to step in at any point. They will also likely be needed the following year IF we loose those three guys I mentioned.

Over all I would say the OL should be a strength next year as we enter the B12 era. I would think we should have the top returning offense in the B12 next year.

Against Oklahoma the OLine struggled some with people out of position, but it settled down a lot once Magnuson entered the game at RG. That would be a decent starting OL IF nobody else steps up before Fall.

I had planned to do this already, but here it is.

Looking ahead to the D side of our FB team for now.

DBs really turned the corner as the season progressed. Some of it may have been the second year of Coach Nansen, but I prefer to credit the addition of Duane Akina to being on the field. He has had success everywhere he has gone. I m still looking to see another step up this coming year like the one we saw this year from Maldonado, Smith, and Stukes.

Speaking of those three, guess who will all be back next year? Oh yea, Stukes, Maldonado, and Smith. Any question who starts? Maybe corners? Nah, Davis and Prysock have those spots locked down. The whole secondary is back except key reserve Isaiah Taylor who entered the portal and is transferring to Miami.

Really could end it there, but depth is still a serious need.
Dalton Johnson is the first name I will toss out as a major guy off the bench. No doubt his future is bright and he should fill in as a starter the following year along side of Smith. The rest will all leave this coming year.
DJ Warnell has been a nice addition since he arrived and has also shown some marked improvement since Akina has arrived.
Jai'Ayviaunynn Celestine is another guy who has improved with Akina's arrival. He has some serious talent but not quite the size the staff would like to see on the island at CB.
We have Parish, Hunter, and Karnley still sitting there with a year on the practice field as well and we really haven't seen what they can do yet.
Newcomers?
Jordan Shaw from Indiana has four years to play and should fit in nicely.
Jack Luttrell from Tennessee has three years to play and should also fit in nicely.
Those two guys were not brought in to start right away, but to learn and relieve this coming year and be potential starters the following year.

LOL
They will have their work cut out for them though. Also coming in this year are a few names to remember.
Rashawn Clark is a BIG TIME player! He could impact the team much like Smith did this year.
Rahim Wright is another name to remember as he has the most balanced and complete game of the incoming freshmen.
Turran Williams has the ability to be an impact player as well in his second season. He should add strength and fit nicely into the system. He is a very good receiver as well, but that group is loaded!

Starters are extremely talented and the bench will be improving as the year moves on with all the new guys joining.

Can Jedd just buy the reserve DBs off Washington?
