So if the donors stop funneling money to the athletic department and start directly paying players with their annual contributions...how much longer before every sport besides football and men's basketball become obsolete?

Why would anyone open their wallet for any Football players? They are not good enough to merit a direct payment. The University should be sharing revenue with the players of all sports if they generate a profit. Period.

Basketball is a different story, but still, no one should be paying the kids directly. In fact, there are kids who are actually trying to get educated that deserve to be paid aka have their tuition covered, room and board, etc. It used to be known as a "scholarship".
