Tommy Lloyd has agreed to become the next head coach of the Arizona Wildcats basketball team!
The long time Gonzaga assistant coach has agreed to a deal for roughly 2.88 Million a year. Official announcement should be coming soon. BEARDOWN!
Wildcat fans Meet your new coach!

Lloyd interview from earlier a month ago
I hope he does well.
But I preferred someone with experience like mighty mouse.
I hope he will atleast keep Jet on staff.
Thanks Wild!!! You're the man!
It was obviously the administration's #1 choice, hence the reason they waited until the Zags' season was over before they moved on from Miller.
I was on pointguardu.com back when we were tracking Cal's jet from Rincon Market to Lexington. I am back here again, and glad to have seen the news here first. As far as coaching experience, he's been an assistant at arguably the top-3 west coast program for 20 years, and has recruited and developed more overseas talent than anyone in the NCAA. I'm good with it. It may actually be beneficial to have picked a non-wildcat, because I think inevitably had Damon been picked over Josh, or Miles over Luke, or whomever, maybe some bitter feelings.....I loved Coach Miller. I would have been glad if he was extended for another 4 years. But he wasn't. We needed a coach and I think we got a good one.
Wouldn't a former WIldcat, who has Head Coaching experience, be more fitting, rather than an assistant? The reason this doesnt make sense is becuase of the real reason for the hire. This is a money move made by the Jeff Steven's He's been holding our school hostage for the entire Sean Miler debacle and now he is flexing his muscle once again. Do the research, see when and where he donates and connect the dots. The real reason, a Stoudamire doesn't stand a chance is purely finacial and its a crime, But truth be told, besides this forum, nowhere else have I seen anything yet. I love the school and want whats best for us. Bear Down!

I'm not too thrilled with Lloyd but if it's him or Damon i'd take Lloyd. I'd like to see Damon do well as a coach but he hasn't done enough to earn the Arizona job. I know he has done well at Pacific but Pacific is a tiny little pebble. Arizona is a mountain. Also look at what he has done. He gets praise cause Pacific isn't as bad as people thought but they are still bad. He is 71-77 in 5 years. Thats UNDER .500. Zero post seasons. Also long ago when he was an assistant coach here under Sean Miller i saw reports he didn't like the amount of work Miller expected his assistants to do. He didn't want to recruit as hard as it was expected. I don't mean to trash him i know he was an absolute legend here but the truth is had he not played at Arizona he wouldn't be a top 100 candidate. He really doesn't deserve an interview.

I'm not doing any research. I'll please ask you to post your citations and references and research here to show said connected dots about the booster donations. I wouldn't even know where to look for that.
How certain is this information?Goodman says they're interviewing Simon and Stoudemire
First of many who will confirm this.
https://twitter.com/BruinReport/status/1380331707321098245
I'd be ecstatic if Simon came in to be our Associate HC with Terry still on the bench.
I would have been happy if Damon got a shot but I agree that he hasn't proven that he can take on the task of a major program. His situation is similar to KU. Haase could try to take over when Self retires but he just hasn't turned Stanford into a true competitor yet.
Lloyd hasn't been a head coach yet but he controls the Zags...a program that was built from scratch and was on the bench for just as many national title games as Lute.
I'm going to embrace the hire and hope for the best.
If so, I would say, what an amazing scoop. Also best hire they could have made, coming from a 40 year fan and season ticket holder.
This is just a smokescreen to appease the boosters who want a UofA alumn hired.

When do you think they're going to announce?
I'm hearing Monday and that makes sense

The UofA is using Goodman to put things out there for optics. He will be the one who breaks the Tommy Lloyd is hired when they give him the OK.
Excerpt from a Spokane newspaper article.
• The signs are all pointing toward Tommy Lloyd leaving Gonzaga, maybe even today.
A person close to Lloyd told friends yesterday the longtime assistant has accepted the offer to become head coach at Arizona, though nothing official has emerged from Tucson yet.
Also
Lloyd's agent is Jason Ranne. And Ranne is a former Arizona basketball captain. He is also a current close confidant of UA President Robert C. Robbins. Put that together and you have the opportunity for a big move.
Full article below

Ranne was a hard working practice player...which was essential when you're playing against Salim, Gardner and Hot Sauce.
Glad that this deal is being finalized. Let's get our **** together and start the new era of Arizona basketball.
[hide login=1]There's now talk of a mystery candidate and word that the deal with Tommy Lloyd becoming the head coach is falling through. Do not believe this for a second. This is a show big out on by the UofA admin. The UofA admin went into panic mode once word got out that Lloyd and the UofA already had a deal in place. There was push back from current candidates, former players, and boosters. This is all just a facade to make it seem as if there was never a deal made and all the candidates had a fair shot. I stand by my post that an agreement was made with Lloyd. I do understand that things could change, but my sources have told me it's a done deal. Hopefully it'll be official sooner than later. [/hide]
[hide login=1]Mystery candidate is either Musselman (Arkansas) or Pope (BYU). I call bullshit on this. This may delay things a bit, but my sources still believe Lloyd will be our coach in the end. [/hide]

So what's really happening? The post here says he's agreed to terms but nothing has been announced yet. Do you believe it's still a done deal? Goodman is saying Lloyd just had one interview with no offer.
[hide login=1]Now the latest news is Matt Brase was interviewed. Robbins is just trolling hard now. [/hide]
[hide login=1]Update: My sources are still reporting to me that our next coach will be Tommy Lloyd. The news being leaked by a certain website (Can't help it) and the push back by the former players have caused Robbins to delay the announcement and make it seem as if they're laying off Lloyd. The only reason Matt Brase is getting an interview is at the request of former players. Blair may be next.
Lloyd isn't getting upset or changing his mind because of the delay and others interviewing. He knows he's got the job and the UofA admin are just going through the motions.
If Lloyd somehow gets cold feet then it'll be a very bad look for Robbins. Just hang in there Wildcat fans. It'll be over soon. [/hide]
Robbins and Heeke have way more at stake in this hire that any of those other dudes
Miller was completely unrelated to Az basketball when he was hired, so was lute
Muss is out and he was never really in.
https://twitter.com/GoodmanHoops/status/1381819604683603971
I personally would prefer muss over lloyd , muss has the experience as head
CoachNot iike lloyd he has o seasons as a head coach .
Terrible image! So ashamed to be a U of A supporter right now. We can't even handle a change in coaching staff in a classy way!
Is there some kind of rule that they need to go through all these steps before hiring a new coach? Serious question. Couldn't they just announce this right after they fired Miller. Why the need for interviews, hiring an agency....?
Needless to say that lost time is not good for us. Our guys might get even more nervous and good potential transfers are signing somewhere else.
Similar to the NFL, I assume that they need to make an effort to try and prove that they gave a fair opportunity to minorities for the HC job.
Perhaps I'm wrong...but these days, you can't just have a white coach "in waiting" for the position.

I posted on Pope being a possible mystery candidate and now Goodman is naming him. This coaching search needs to end and end quick. The UofA has until Thursday when the ABOR meets again. [/hide]
Pope has only been mentioned in passing. He might be the best option available without question. Is there any truth to this?
This search does need to end quick, I am sure recruiting is suffering, it would be nice for our recruiting class to be recruited to stay at Arizona , also 2022 class now that we will have a new coach I am sure some of the players will be different than some of the players Miller was chasing.
[hide login=1]There was an agreement with the UofA admin and Lloyd that he would become Arizona's coach. So much so that Lloyd started making calls to other coaches and word got out. There was push back from boosters and former players. The plan was still to announce Lloyd as head coach on Monday or Tuesday and then Robbins gets a call from Musselman. Robbins then puts Lloyd on the back burner. Muss plays us like a fiddle and now we wait to see if Lloyd still agrees or if Robbins screwed everything up. [/hide]

Embarrassing
Is this real life?
Such complete and utter incompetence! NO EXCUSES! Can those two now!
The feeling for Robbins and his son Dave right now

This was just posted on the Gonzaga message board

This is all second hand information, so take it for what its worth, but my guy is typically accurate on what he tells me. I think this was nearly a done deal the end of last week and then the UA president got involved.
Sounds like the UA President is from the Dan Snyder school of team management.[/hide]
Soooooo Lloyd walked? Don't blame him.
I'm pretty close to finally being done with anything UofA myself.
This is why it's OK to hire coaches that don't have prior relationships with your university...but NOT OK to hire administration that never previously affiliated with Arizona.
Get this petition going!!!

I read on the Gonzaga board someone say that lloyd has pulled out of Arizona job. If true than we need option 2 which is hopefully damon.
I
It will be interesting to see if lloyd has backed out if Arizona selects someone who they have interviewed or if the search will be on going.
I hope there is end in sight.
This is colossal shit show
There's a rumor that the NCAA is going to let the UA keep all of its scholarships and that there will be no post-season ban, BUT ...
we have to keep Robbins and Heeke for ten years.
Just a rumor.
