The new contract guarantees Self $5.41 million per year a $225,000 base salary, a $2.75 million professional services contract and an annual $2.435 million retention bonus a raise of about $200,000 annually.
All I can say is, WOW!!!
He won't be there 5 years. This is just eye candy for recruits to ensure that they don't question whether the school has alternative plans in the future.
Self and Kansas love each other but he has already publicly admitted that he plans to retire in the coming years.
Contract aside...I personally think he's the best coach in basketball.
We have to keep in mind that Kansas doesn't currently have an AD and instead has a booster running the athletic department. How is that even allowed?
Some solid attorneys!
With Roy retiring and a history of losing Williams to UNC in the past...KU wanted to also ensure that Self doesn't jump to another blue blood without NCAA repercussions.
Interesting move.
Easy to keep a criminal when there are NEVER any consequences to your actions. Congrats to Bill Self and Kansas and the NCAA because they all have their guy.
F'em all
