Title: 2020 PG
Post by: Wildcat Dad on November 16, 2019, 06:09:59 PM
While I have not read all the recruiting posts, I see SG and bigs. Where is our PG next year? We counting on BWill to be back? And he is more of a combo guard and we are PGU

The way I see it is the talent pgs in 2020 seems very weak an all the ones miller was recruiting  have committed so unless another one emerges its probaley a grad transfer or jc or one that can reclassify  I would be comfortable  with b. will  running pg. If he was healthy  I think we were alot better with him running pg last year instead of colman  the problem we cant trust his knee.

Unless we land a late recruiting battle for a kid that is ready to start at a high major, I envision Miller taking another grad transfer...which is not ideal.

If it turns out to be a grad transfer  pg. I hope it's one
that has  good size not one  that is undersized.

I just want a ball handler that has a pass first mentality. Enough with the combo guards that look to score on every possession.

I see yea there didn't  seem to be  many pass first point guards in the class seems like more combo guards in 2020.

We have seen a lot of guys pushing the ball up the floor this year.  Josh, Dylan, and now Dev. We can always pray for Nico to return in case BWill isn't durable enough but I think Dalen and Dev will be doing a lot of ball handling next year if not. Reminiscent of NJ's time maybe.  Let's hope we have the supporting cast for it.

Exactly Baker has looked good making plays so far and Dalen is also known for his playmaking. But neither would handle pressure well and assuming Williams can't recover and we miss on Adam Miller at the very least we need someone accustomed too to being a primary ball handler.

Actually after 3 games Baker has 12 AST an just 1 TO. His assists have increased every game too. 2020 is a weak year for PGs. Adam Miller is way more of a 2 guard than a pure PG. Hopefully Williams can recover. But if he doesn't we'd be good with Baker, Doutrive, Terry, and a grad transfer.

I know that's why I was saying he's been a good playmaker for us. But he struggled with the Illinois guards and didn't look very comfortable against the pressure they were applying. Even though Williams or Miller aren't pure PGs their primary ball handlers which is all we really need for next year outside of another legitimate point guard.

Here's hoping our fast start and up-tempo style will translate to an uptick in recruiting. Pretty dismal so far.

I can see a scenario where we don't land a PG, and Miller loads up on combo guards and bigs and we see PG by committee with JB/DD being the primary front runners.

The way recruiting is now, there are going to be more than a fair share of PGs hitting Free Agency...I mean transfer portal.
If we continue on this run, Expect Arizona to have a nice pick of PGs that will be giving us a serious look; especially with the way Miller is letting NM run the show.

I think miller brings in a grad transfer pg. An then depending on b.will an his knee he could be the point guard baker dd dalen terry etc  could all play spot minutes at pg.

How's that, no true PG, worked out for Arizona so far?  The true PG's at UofA: Wise, Turner, TJ, PJC, Coleman and Mannion.  Turner could have been a legend at Arizona but, we all know that story. Wise will forever be a hero because he elected to stay however, he was at best a backup thrown into the fire. W/O a true PG you can win but, it's a lot easier with a born and raised PG.

It's not for lack of effort it's just SM historically has bad luck recruiting PG's

Jaden Hardy is still on our radar. He's 2021, but it has been mentioned that reclassifying to 2020 is an option if he wanted to. Whether he or his dad actually want to do that or not is a different matter entirely. Not a true PG, but elite enough to make it work.

Hey Wild, could you give us an update on B Will? Wondering how his rehab is going? Is he able to work out at all? Is he in contact  with the team? And most of all, does Miller think he is  viable for next year?
Thanks for your thoughts.
