Predict the Arizona basketball starting 5 for game 1 of the 2019-20 season
Now that BWill is out what starting 5 will Miller role out for game 1?
Here's my guess.
PG - Mannion
SG - Smith
SF - Green
PF - Gettings
C - Jeter
1. Mannion
2. Smith
3. Green
4. Nnaji
5. Jeter
Mannion
Hazzard
Green
Lee
Jeter
Obviously this will change as the season goes, but there is my best stab at it.
Most years our opening game starting 5 doesn't match our regular starting 5. With that in mind I'll go with...
Mannion
Hazzard
Green
Gettings
Jeter
Less of a prediction and more of a wishlist:
Nico
DD
Green
Zeke
Chase

Yep.
Nico
Smith
Green
Lee
Jeter
(my PREFERENCE would be Nnaji and Hazzard starting in lieu of Smith/Lee, but I don't see that happening until later in the season)
shocked that people aren't picking zeke, he's way too good not to start from day one.
PG- Nico
SG- Hazz
SF- Josh
PF- Zeke
C- Jeter
Nico
Hazzard
Green
Nanji
Jeter I think nanji starts but I could also see gettings starting.
I'm with you 100% on that lineup. Just didn't think that Miller would go with that group for the season opener.

Agreed, I think that is our most talented lineup that makes the most sense on both sides of the ball. I see gettings and Ira splitting the rest of the minutes at the 4 while Zeke slides over to the 5 to spell Jeter. I also think Jeter will sit a lot more through the season, it will also be important for Jeter's back to not force him into big minutes.
Mannion
Hazzard
Green
Nnaji
Jeter
I do think Zeke will end up a starter later in the season, but you guys may be right and he could start off the bat.
Miller is just not going to start true freshmen in the first game no matter how good they are unless he absolutely has no choice. That was true of Olson too.
I also think this may be the season we see the most changes in starting lineups under Miller and agree that the end of the year will likely look a lot different than the beginning.
With BW now out, I will adjust my prediction:
Mannion
Green
Smith
Nnaji
Jeter
This is what I would like to see, but I could see that spot where I have Smith be given to two others.
I can see Hazzard with the nod at G, slide Green to SF.
I could even make a small argument for Gettings as well at SF instead of Smith.

I've seen this lineup posted a few times and I like it the best. Just 2 things to add:
1. We're going to see more of Hazzard than this thread would indicate. I actually don't like him that much as a player, having a 6'0 SG on the court is obviously something that can be exploited. But he fits our needs really well with his three point shooting and ability to handle the ball.
I wish he was a passer, but outside of Nico he's the most steady ball handler on the team. He will get a lot of minutes just because of that, especially in close games or when the opponent is good at ball pressure.
His ability to make three's off the dribble or spotting up also fills a big need for us. If his shooting translates to this level, that ability will also give his mpg a high floor. Miller has indicated that the game is becoming more about shooters, so despite Hazzard's weaknesses, his strengths fit the lineup pretty well.
2. This is not the same Zeke Nnaji that you see in his youtube highlights. He has completely transformed his body and gained both upper and lower body strength. As a result, he's way ahead of schedule at this point and is looking like a stud in workouts. He's done a great job getting his body prepared, and now his full skillset is starting to show because of it. That's also a great indication of his work ethic.
Nnaji's ability to shoot the 3 will also be huge. He's not Lauri, but he can hit the 3 at a high enough rate to keep defenses honest and provide us a pressure valve when things get too clogged in the paint. His mobility and versatility is going to cause a lot of mismatches, which will help keep in on the floor.

Pretty well sums up how I see it.

BUT its great to see a lot of variances posted. Sean Miller has a lot of tools to utilize within a 7-8 man rotation with potential to play 9 when needed.
This is game 1 of the season so I think the lineup will be Mannion, Green, Jeter, Smith and probably Gettings. Not the lineup I prefer and certainly not the lineup we will have at the start of the Pac 12 season. I just don't see Miller starting three freshmen but he can't keep Mannion and Green off the floor. That is why I don't see Zeke starting game 1.
