Sean Miller watching Devon Dotson 6'2" / 180 lbs PG On team Charlotte in the 17u championship.
"I don't have any visits set, but I do know I want to get out to see Arizona soon, but I haven't set anything up."
"I like the style of play they have. Coach (Sean) Miller talks to my family a lot and says I fit their style," said Dotson of the Wildcats. "I am very interested in how they play, and they say they need a dynamic point guard to come in from day one, so I like that." per Scout.com

So with Miller obviously interested in a second PG for the 2018 class it would be safe to assume that he would like to play Barcello and/or Brandon Williams off the ball quite a bit?
That' exactly right. Both can create their own shot and play SG along with PG. Miller wants to elite Point Guards for 2018.
With two elite PGs, plus D.Smith, B.Randolph and whoever we bring in 2018, I think A.Barcello could see himself getting A LOT of competition for minutes.
Don't let R.Barrett reclassify and come to Arizona, I do not see how all blue-chip recruits do not jump him like they did J.Mayes when he was here.
The situations resemble one another, except the talent is better in 2028 as it was in 2010.

To your point on Barcello fighting for minutes, one of my greatest fears for this incoming class of 2017 is that they wont see the bigger picture, that the majority of the team will be graduating or declaring early at the end of the season. Therefore their roles will expand a lot in the 2018-19 season. This season, though, Lee, Barcello, Smith and even Randolph may not get the playing time they want. I just hope they can deal with that knowing their time will come the following season and beyond.

That is the hardest part to deal with (in my opinion) when you are used to being the man in your area, then you come to Arizona where everyone here used to be that man.
It happened with G.York and G.Jerrett back in 2012; York almost transferred out and Jerrett went to the NBA, again in 2015 with C.Victor.
The point is, I do not see any of them having a problem with it as long as they know that 2018 things will be different losing 6-7 bodies.
Wait, but that means that we are going to bring in 6-7 freshmen?
I don't know how this is going to play out, but I am eager to see how things are going to shake out with this season and the arrival of our 2018 recruiting class.
Dotson is really good at getting to the basket, drawing the foul & finding the open man. I hope we get him.

You rather we get him over J.Quinerly?
Some believe we lead after his visit and he happens to be the #1 PG in the country.

They actually just played against each other. Posting that up in it's own thread now that you mentioned this MV.

This makes me assume that the one we should appear to go after (J.Quinerly) is not going to be the best fit for our program like other PGs in this class (D.Dotson).

Yea, I guess looking at it statistically we have averaged 1 or so kid per class in the Miller era that either doesn't make it through his frosh year or transfers/declares prematurely. And with all that we are losing next year I guess it would be a good assumption that we will probably need a minimum of 5 new bodies, probably more.

If things go based on projections, we are going to need AT LEAST seven bodies.
We have four seniors (Denny/Ristic/Pinder/Jackson-Cartwright) and three heavily favored NBA departures (Alkins/Trier/Ayton).
I could see a situation where Alkins coming back for his junior year though.
With that talent leaving, he would be the ONLY three-year player on the entire roster, which means Miller will give him A LOT of freedom to do his thing, very similar to how he is handling A.Trier.
Long ways to go but things could get worse if players start transferring out and that number will keep going up.

That is my biggest concern, these incoming guys (minus Ayton and Akot) not getting the playing time they want and not willing to wait until the next season. Miller does a pretty good job of keeping foundation players(3 or 4 year guys) mixed with one and done guys. I would hate to see us become Kentucky and recruit an entirely new roster (for the most part) every year. Like you said though, long ways to go. Many things could happen so I guess we will have to wait and see how it all pans out.

Here is my breakdown with my own personal opinions:
P.Jackson-Cartwright
A.Trier
R.Alkins
D.Ayton
D.RisticThose our five starters, they will get as many minutes as they can handle.
Now on to our bench
E.Akot
B.Randolph
D.Smith
These three will play because of their length, versatility and athleticism.
How many minutes they play and what position(s) is going to be key in figuring out who else is going to crack the rotation.
K.Pinder
I.Lee
A.BarcelloOf these three, they are the biggest wild cards.
I could make a case for each one to get significant minutes, but I could also make a case for them to be designated to the bench.
With one real spot open in the lineup, I would say Miller starts the season off with Pinder, but if he can't do it, Lee is going to be called on.
Barcello may get buried on the bench as I see Miller relying HEAVILY on PJC/Trier to handle the ball and then allowing E.Akot a shot as a secondary ball-handler when he is on the floor.
I cannot see a scenario where at least two of my ball-handlers are not on the floor which would make Barcello expandable, I believe he redshirts.
T.Denny This guy is just happy to have a roster spot.
I do not see him playing for us at all, he appears to be a glorified walk-on.
I pretty much agree with that. Definitely on your point about Talbott Denny. I didn't even expect them to retain him on scholarship this year(Im assuming if something comes up, possibly Bagley, he will lose that scholly pretty quick). Akot and Randolph will be first up off the bench I believe as well. I have worries about Dylan Smith possibly still being turnover prone and maybe a little too shot happy but that we will see. TBH I had higher expectations for Barcello this season, maybe even being our #2 PG. But with what I have heard from Miller combined with the way they are recruiting 2018, I guess he wont have a big role as an underclassman. Just hope he can stick with Arizona much like Gabe York did.

I am not in the know, but I believe in my heart that Miller has told T.Denny his scholarship is provisional as long as we do not go after another body in 2017.
If Bagley reclassifies, Denny knows what's up and will do what he needs to if we land him.
About D.Smith, I do not think Miller is going to let that happen.
If he does start to go in the wrong direction, I think Miller is willing to bury his *** on the bench.
We have Trier/Alkins/Randolph/Akot to play SG/SF so Smith is expandable if he is unable to do what Miller needs him to do based on their player/coach meetings.
I do not want to put it out there this way, but Barcello and Smith are the two on the top of my list of players that I would not be surprised to hear that they are transferring out.
I wish we could end up being retaining more of our players, but every elite program has some players that leave the program prematurely.
