Title: 2019-20 Transfer Free Agents
Post by: mvpreed2 on March 22, 2019, 11:59:43 PM
Another off-season, and another year of the "Transfer Free Agents".
(I think I might keep that name going forward)
I will try and keep all transfers rumored/linked to us in here.
Feel free to post/update the thread and I will continue to keep it as current as possible.

Grad-Transfers
G - Max Hazzard, UC Irvine — Arizona
F - Justin Pierce, William & Mary — North Carolina
C - Derrik Smits, Valaparaiso — Butler
G - Rayjon Tucker, Little Rock

Transfers
G - Jermal Baker, Kentucky
F/C - Jordan Brown, Nevada
F - Noah Horchler, North Florida — Providence
G - Kira Lewis Jr., Alabama
F - Stanley Umude, South Dakota

Curious when the Cats will decide/announce their transfers.

I was thinking about this also FlagCat.
I believe we will have a much clearer picture after the NBA deadline passes.

At this point, Miller should know exactly how the team will look and his offers for HS prospects will have committed.
The transfers are gone, players off to the NBA, coaches being fired/hired, players are moving as a result, and you have a better idea of the market.
Then Miller can see what he needs/wants and can go hard for him/them.

Makes sense it will be awhile before this all plays out, just curious what the squad will look like for the 19-20 season. Guess I have no patience.

No we are both in the same boat.
I am eager to see if Miller is able to address the gaping holes at SF/C that we have.
Yes he got Nnaji (6'11), but Koloko (7'0) is very skinny and needs time.
After those two, it is Jeter (6'11) again, so is Miller going to get CJ more help inside?
We got killed by longer F (6'7+) last season, so is Miller going to address that or move Green/Armstrong to SF?
I would like to see a combo forward like Pierce to be brought in, but time will tell if Miller makes that move.

Random thought I just had..

I don't see how it's so hard for Miller to land decent transfers to fill needs.
Has anyone ever scrolled through the amount of transfers that are on the market?
I'm talking about former ESPNU 100 prospects:

F - Daniel Giddens (Alabama)
F - KJ Lawson (Memphis/Kansas)
G - Charlie Moore (Cal/Kansas)
G - DJ Harvey (Notre Dame)

These are a few of the names that jumped out to me.
Granted we don't need guards, but Lawson is 6'8 and Giddens 6'11.
We desperately need more height on this team.
Just food for thought..

We could sure use I big center who is athletic rebounds well guards the rim well last year we were a poor rebounding team where that is usually a strength.

I think both Giddens and Brown can be that for us.
I'm fine with our bigs taking a charge, especially if they can do it at a clip like CJ did for us.

Trey Porter would have been an excellent addition for us.
He was a grad-transfer that had two years of eligibility left.
He was more of a banger inside, and CJ could have played PF, and Luther/Lee could have come off the bench.
For me, I have a feeling we don't find a big Miller likes and we end up with Jeter/Nnaji/Lee inside and when forced, we have to throw in Koloko.

Brandon Randolph and Dylan Smith are leaving the program, DD is on the fence. Arizona wants these 3 kids Jordan Brown, Max Hazzard and Jake Toolson. We'll only take Jake if DD transfers out

Hey Air-zona, how firm is your statement re:these guys leaving or are you going on rumor?
Not challanging, just want to know how to gage what you are saying. Thanks.

We don't need another PG.
Brown I understand, Toolson is another 6'5 wing which I don't think we need either, not at that height.

We need height and Brown fills that role.
Unless both Green/Armstrong are going to fill that "SF" role, we don't have anyone big enough to play SF.
Example, go and get the Hauser brothers from Marquette.
Sam is 6'8 and Joey is 6'9, both forwards, one SF and the other Stretch PF.

So we "want" Brown, and by all accounts, he'd fill a need. Any info on where we stand with him? I remember he was very quiet about his initial recruitment, so wouldn't be surprised if he's that way again... but I don't think he has the luxury of waiting so long this time around.

Is he our top target at the moment?

Brown is Arizona's top target

you say we dont need another PG. What if Brandon's knee acts up next season? Are you willing to hand the team to Alex when Nico needs a breather?

Arizona is no longer in the running for Jake Toolson. Jake wants more minutes then Arizona has to offer. https://mobile.twitter.com/GoodmanHoops/status/1117948287288598528

Yes!
That's the only reason why he is on the team.
He's not a SG, if he can't get minutes at PG, he might as well transfer out, unless he is fine riding the bench.

Yes!
I am not a Lee fan, especially with him being a generous looking 6'8 from my 65" TV.
Gettings is a tall SF, he won't be guarding any true PF in the PAC-12 or he will get eaten alive.
Jeter and Nnaji I'm okay with, they have the length, not the size, but you can cancel out the size if you are able to use your length the right way.

I never said they were coming either.
I said those are the types of players I'd want to see us going after.
It's much easier to make statements when you're tapped in.
I call it exactly how it looks on the inside..

Miller is 100% recruiting a backup PG. Alex is still here because he works hard doesn't bitch and cry for minutes, and he's a good kid. Miller is trying to avoid putting him on the court. Haven't you been paying attention?????
