Arizona loses its 6th straight game going down to Utah 83-76

The Arizona Wildcats' losing streak reached six games Thursday as they fell to the Utah Utes 83-76 in Salt Lake City, dropping to 14-11 overall and 5-7 in the Pac-12.

It's Arizona's longest losing streak since 1983-84, the first year of the Lute Olson era. Our full recap can be found here, and here three positive and negative takeaways from...

Well they played 30 minutes of competitive basketball...ugh.

What happened to Randolph?  His shot continues to get flatter, he's hesitant to attack the basket and he rarely keeps his man in front of him while on defense.

Hoping that B-Will's return can result in a few meaningless wins as the conference season wraps up.

We need to play Doutrive, Barcello and Lee more than Randolph, Coleman and Smith.  Randolph as stated is getting worse by the game - his shot is so flat there is no way he can make it and doesn't.  Doutrive, Barcello and Lee will be important members of our team next year and should get the bulk of the playing time from now on.  Let's coach them up and get them better

Yeah, didn't even mention Smith because I'm not sure why he's even taking up more than 15 MPG.  35 minutes and 0-6 from 3PT?

I'm tired of Randolph doing nothing on court.

Tough game but I saw some changes In plays and not near the fall off feomnstarter to bench that we used to have. No fall off really.

At the beginning of the year I didn't think Doutrive should get the time but things have changed pretty dramatically. The exiting of Akot, and Williams sidelined, has opened up some doors for him. This is an unexpected opportunity for development for him and Barcello and even Lee. Plus the current production of Randolph and Coleman isn't great enough to keep these guys off the floor.

All for starting Barcello and Doutrive and I still like Luther. The other 2 fill ins as starter I would put between Randolph, Lee, Smith, and Jeter. Randolph over Smith unless Randolph is not willing to be at Arizona next year. Same with Lee and Jeter. Despite their struggles, I still think Randolph and Jeter are better than Smith and Lee.

Liked what I saw from Doutrive and Barcello and Lee.  Lee specifically really plays for the A on his shirt.  Let's keep getting them minutes to help ready them for next year.

IMO Jeter is our most consistent player but it looks like he is hindered by his injury.  Keep getting him minutes and back on track.

I agree with the above about Luther.  I like him and he has the best looking shot.  Just wish our team knew how to feed him when he's hot.  I think Luther could have a night like Mr. Van Utah last night if we knew how to feed him.

Coleman just doesn't do it for me.  I'm sure he's a good guy and appreciate him being here to help but he's just not cutting it.  We have no leader and he needs to play that role. He's not capable.

Smith and Randolph have something wrong with them.  IMO Randolph looks like Trier after he quit last year except Trier was never this bad.  Either he has completely lost his confidence or something happened with him and the staff.  Only other explanation is his chemistry with Williams.  This all seems to have transpired since Williams got hurt.   They need to be coached and confidence instilled.

I watched one of our players (think it was Barcello) get his ass chewed last night by Miller.  I watched Williams sitting there with a blank look on his face after it happened.  I read once that Book was a players coach.  Perhaps Book's approach helped to offset Miller's hard approach.  Almost like good cop bad cop.  Maybe without Book, Miller's hard approach is not working.

The players seem to be working hard, trying, but just can't seem to break through.  Miller's constant dress downs of the players may be taking their toll.

I was amazed when we changed things up and pressed last night.  That was a good sign he's willing to try something different.

Great post.

The guy I saw get it was Jeter. IMO, Miller was overly angry, looked like rage and uncontrolled. I just don't think anyone is having any fun.

I do think that Luther has the highest BB IQ on the floor and we see it consistently all game long.

Liked Weyand - seems like a great 12th man to have.

Agree about the press...second game in a row he's tried it. Count me astounded.

I'm sure there was no shortage of ass chewing last night, but I saw the Barcello one. Don't know what he did that deserved it, looked like he hustled all night. Practice is supposed to be the grind, games should be fun. I agree doesn't look like a lot of fun for these guys, losing aside.

Just looked at the box score and noticed Smith had 16!  What a quiet 16 but glad to see him scoring.

RE: ass chewing comments...

Did anyone see some horrendous mistakes by the players on the floor? I did not.. You know there are gonna be some ticky-tack fouls thats not the players fault. Kids are going to miss defensive assignments. NBA ALL-Stars miss defensive assignments...your gonna get some jacked up shots too early etc etc... and you have to coach those moments...

But I did not see the type of egregious mistakes last night that we've seen in many games this season, even just last week.

I saw a a ton of klankers, missed shots, missed FT's and especially missed lay ups and bunnies. We are a terrible, TERRIBLE scoring team.

No one of our guards can drive without their shot being blocked...colemen its especially horrible at it.

So I do now knot what Miller saw that caused him to be angry, I have no doubt it was something but last night seems like we just stink...not that we make so many bad mistakes.

Will the real WINE...I mean Liquidater please stand up. I agree...wh he was mad at I think was the ref...or was he directing his anger at the team?? either way...what I liked about the game was that the usual finish was nt the usual finish. They fought and tried to get back into the game instead of giving up!!!  BEAT COLORADO
