Post by: mvpreed2 on April 12, 2018, 10:13:47 PM
For those that are wondering how are 2018 recruiting was going, I figured I would make a list of available HS prospects we are/were after and any updates on their recruitment at the time.
Hoping to bring some more traffic to this part of the site.

All prospects are listed in alphabetical order, not priority.
(Home states are in parentheses)

G - James Akinjo (CA), cancelled Arizona visit, Georgetown
C - Jordan Brown (CA), Considering: Arizona/Cal/North Carolina
G - Devonaire Doutrive (CA) - Arizona
C - Lukas Kisunas (NH)
F - Emmitt Matthews Jr (WA)
F - Omar Thielemans (EUR) - Arizona
G - Brandon Williams (CA), Considering: Arizona & Oregon

Doutrive is committed.

Looking to add Thielemans and Luther soon.

Thinking Williams is headed our way too.

My thoughts here.

Anything else would be a plus, but this would be a solid class even with Luther being here only one year.

I would like to add Brown and maybe a grad-transfer C also.
That would leave us with one available scholarship, maybe use that on Kisunas, a project that could redshirt next season and provide post depth for us unless he breaks out and becomes a real player.

I think Miller needs to get back to trying bring in some projects to keep our numbers balanced.
Too many ONDs tip the scale to one end and we have to scramble to replace them.
A project every 2-3 years would be enough for me.

Brown would be nice! Keep hearing he wants to stay closer to home but then NC gets into the mix?

That's how you know it's not 100% that he wants to stay home.
If that was the case, he would be considering USC, but he isn't.
I wonder why?
Cause staying close to home isn't everything to him.

If Brown wants playing time, we have it.  If he wants to play for a coach that has helped develop some great power forwards, we have it.  If he wants to be part of an elite program, we are here.

Personally think Brown should spend multiple years in college... he's too small to play center in the NBA, so he would be a PF.  And in this NBA you need to be a good shooter at the PF spot, which he is not yet.  Of course, he wouldnt be the first or the last kid to go one and done when he wasn't ready.
I think we need to get back to getting that one featured 5 star, one and done guy, while recruiting others that will likely spend 3 to 4 years at Arizona that can be molded into Miller's system, sustain team chemistry and lead the new guys.

Agreed!
Both of Millers most talented teams (2013 & 2014) fit this bill:

2013:
OND: Gordon
Veterans: McConnell/N.Johnson/Mayes/Ashley/Tarczewski
(Ashley/Tarczewski, only sophomores, but started/player in every game)

2014
OND: S.Johnson
Veterans: McConnell/Hollis-Jefferson/Ashley/Tarczewsk/York/Korchek
(Hollis-Jefferson another sophomore, but was clearly a leader on that team)

Our 2015 and 2016 classes seemed to be too reliant on stars/hype and less on how each will mesh with the returning roster.
Hopefully Miller gets this and doesn't try to become the Duke/Kentucky of the West.

Yeah we were as complete as you could get.
We had it all, and ran into whack *** Wisconsin TWICE in two years.
That second time, the committee did that **** on purpose hoping we would matchup again for "Part II" which we did but got handed video game stats.
I'm still not over that tournament..
