Miller went on a special visit to see Brandon Williams last night. Miller is working hard on getting Williams to recommit to the CATS asap. We are definitely still very much in the mix & we'll keep you posted.

"Arizona is still in the picture," he said. "I may end up committing back there but will time will tell. Coach Miller and his staff have really opened my eyes about things that I didn't know before I decommitted. They went into all kinds of detail and our talks have been really reassuring."

Miller HAS to go ALL IN on this kid. He's one of the top 2 options (if not the top) out there currently uncommitted (and that we have a realistic chance with). If we can get him back, it may make others feel better about committing. No one wants to be the first to commit to a team with no commits this late. If a couple of these highly rated guys don't come onboard, it will be a class full of 3 stars, JC, grad transfers, and/or overseas guys. We'll be hoping we find 1-2 gems in the bunch.
Full court press Miller!!!
Reel him back in Miller!
As far as grad transfers go, I hope we really take a good look at Ryan Taylor (Evansville) and Kameron Chatman (Detroit). They both look like they'd be absolute steals if we got 1 or both of them on our roster. Those 2 and Brandon Williams would easily be a Top 10 recruiting haul, and potentially even Top 5.

Miller's makin money moves! Love it. Thanks for the update Wild!
That's the most encouraging thing I have heard about Wildcat BBall for a while now. Shows me Miller is committed to the Program, and ready to bare his soul to get a prospect back. Good sign for me.
That is so Great that Coach Miller is working hard to get Williams back. It would be great for Williams if he came back. A. He would be just about guaranteed to start as point guard. B. Arizona may be the biggest "power school" that he could do that at. C. And he would also have a pretty good team to lead. Possibilities would be plentiful. D. He would have the best fans in the country supporting him.
Really?

I never considered ASSU an option for Williams, but like I said, the entire conference is trying to capitalize on us being "down" right now.
At this point, everything in our recruiting is a waiting game.
We will land some recruits, but no one really knows who and how good they will be.
I'm just sitting back and waiting..
By all accounts, Brandon grew up a Wildcat fan. I can't imagine any UofA fan (even if a recruit) seriously considering going to ASU. Not to mention the only reason Hurley could come is that his team continued their epic collapse of a season and lost AGAIN...
Brandon Williams father has confirmed that Miller told him & his son that he is not leaving Arizona. There's a very good chance Williams recommits and still has UofA ahead of all other schools that have offered since he decommitted.
fingers crossed and prayers hands....this would be a great beginning to the off-seasoning.
This would turn next year's team in the right direction. His PG skills are something the Cats really need. I believe if Williams recommitted to the Cats it could help draw others.
Bear Down Coach Miller!!
Come on Brandon. If you're the Arizona fan we think you are, we know you've found these websites and are reading these comments. No other school needs you like we do. Don't punish us for some shoddy reporting at ESPN. Step up and lead us through these turbulent times and write your name into Arizona history!!
Agreed. Brandon Williams is not only a great PG, but he's a great kid. His family is grounded seems to be exactly what the program needs going forward.
With a re-commitment, he would go down as one of Arizona's favorite sons. He would be known as the beginning of a re-birth of Miller's program. It may take a couple of years, but he would lead the way.
He would get a ton of respect compared to everyone else on this program due to his decision.
I read he is headed to Oregon for an official visit with one of their 2018 signees these days though.

Like Kevin Knox this past year. He took a late visit to Missouri, and then everybody starts thinking there's a really strong possibility he would end up there. Then, after he commits to Kentucky, it comes out that he had already decided on Kentucky long before that but just felt like visiting Missouri because one of his best friends was there lol
Williams' father, Chris Wright, said Wednesday that Miller's statement about Pitt was "huge news." and "His recruitment will play out through the spring and into the summer if need be."
What was your interpretation of that, since Miller stated he was not a candidate.
My interpretation is that with all the rumors flying around about Miller going to Pitt today we almost lost Williams as a recruit. Thank goodness Miller made his statement as he had already told Williams parents he was going to be here next year.

I had a hunch this was a factor and I bet it's probably meant for some other recruits too. Good News. :)
Oh hell no! Williams said he was a UofA fan, so there's no way he'd go there.

That would be messed up if Williams went there. Arizona fans would hate him for that move. Would be a low blow.
He'll answer the door decked out head to toe in U of A gear and they will slowly turn around and walk back to the car with their heads hanging.
Update on Williams. Not too worried about him getting all these in home visits & going on visits. He should hear what these other coaches have to say (accept for Hurley) & live it up.

UCLA missed out on a chance to possibly convince Williams to become a bruin after UCLA coach Alford chose to send his assitant coaches Broussard & Grace to do the in home visit instead of going himself. That's the real reason Brandon Williams cancel on them and they're now put of the picture.
Well UCLA could use him.
Their lead guard is off to the NBA now.
Alford is going to need another guard to pair with Hands next season.
The better question is, what PAC-12 HASN'T Williams been in contact with?
Oregon/Colorado/UCLA, I'm surprised Utah and Stanford hasn't put their bid in.

That would definitely be a perfect Monday.
Please!!!!
If we had BW and DD on board it might help with Brown. The assistants being announced would also help if it is who we think it is.
Nice to have so much positive rumors flying around.
We just need that first domino(es) to fall so those that were on the fence can jump to our side or jump off and go elsewhere.
great news!
Any chance this would be a Sunday thing?
Brandon Williams dad and family will have a big say in his final decision, so hopefully that doesn't change what I'm hearing.
Now that we're so close to Tuesday, I wouldn't mind if announcements wait until then. Tuesday may have a higher media impact than Sunday and Monday we may get overshadowed by the national championship game. We've had so much bad pub this past year, I'd really like whatever good news we have to have maximum impact for us at this point.
To have Williams re-commit to the Wildcats would be a little bit of a blessing after what has happened so far. Shame nothing can be done about that reporter and ESPN...but sometimes you just can't stop the neighbor's dog from crapping in your yard...
Williams having what looks to be his last in home visit. He may also have an in home with Kansas, but it's not set up as of now. It's still Arizona Vs Oregon on this with him leaning towards Arizona as the last we've heard on where he stands.

I am going to continue to believe WILDcatAZfan when he says it is between Arizona and Oregon.
One thing I have noticed is that some of these kids love the recruiting attention they get from programs that need someone at their position and having all these programs scramble to try and sign them.
They love it and continue to host schools and go on unofficial visits that they know they would never seriously consider (Colorado/ASSU) just because..

More than anything I just want to see some positive development within the program. I know it has been less than a month since our season ended but you would think that Miller and the school would at the very least fill the assistant positions quickly so that they can begin recruiting full force. We have a lot of ground to make up on recruits/transfers and having only two full time coaches has to put us at a significant disadvantage. If Cohen really is our guy than I don't see why we shouldn't have him on board yet. Stanford's season is over and the off-season isn't getting any longer. We're less than ten days away from the beginning of the spring signing period.
Looks like Kentucky is trying to jump in the mix
https://twitter.com/GoodmanESPN/status/980893547271516162
I'll be pleasantly surprised if ends up committing back to UofA. It would be nice, but I don't see what has really changed.
I can't blame any kid and/or his parents balking at the situation we have had over the last season with the FBI and then He who shall not be named.
I think it is pretty apparent at this point that Miller replacing his assistants and continuing to recruit that he and the UofA have complete that faith nothing is changing around town. So to say what has changed I think that he's proving he's not going anywhere to BWill who had previously committed to us to play for Miller.
People can always change their mind, but solidifying his future here for the time being should be completely enough to secure a recommitment from BWill assuming he still wants to play for Miller.
If BWill wants to play for ol' pouty lips up in Tempe and have Round Zero be the ceiling, then we don't want him anyway.
I think he'll come back to his senses and be the guy that (re)started it all at Arizona.
Nice article on Brandon Williams. I believe he could end up being one of our most important recruits ever.

Lil update on Brandon Williams from last night
Brandon Williams was asked by some fans last night if there's a chance he'd still come back to Arizona and he said "yeah there's a chance I come back to Arizona" it's always good to hear this especially with all the other teams getting involved.
He ignored all questions asked from Zags fans and when asked about Oregon he said "yeah a free Oregon visit, I can't wait." so take that for what it's worth.
Also, Caught a brief conversation between Akot & BWILL
Akot told him to "come chill with pops"
Williams responded by saying "Emmanuel your like my bigger brother, but you're not pops yet, you know"

Not me. I don't blame him one bit for his course of action given that of Arizona's. He's not doing anything most wouldn't do. Taking his time, marketing himself - all smart moves. I hope to see him with ARIZONA on his chest !
Looks like Miller visited with Williams last night.
Arizona still remains a strong possibility for Williams. In fact, he said Arizona coach Sean Miller – who assures the family everything will turn out OK – planned to visit Monday night just to "show him a couple ideas."

I see some people on social media who are getting all offended by Williams taking all of these visits & it's just hilarious. He's a kid & he's taking advantage of going on Free visits to schools & places he's never been being treated like a royalty. For all we know Williams may have already made up his mind on what school he's going to pick & is just living it up. If I were him I'd totally be doing the same thing. All the people out there saying they are over him or saying they don't want him now because he's looking around are going to be the same people that will be ecstatic if he recommits to Arizona. Plus WILD already said it's really only between us & Oregon & we're in the lead for now, so there's still a good chance he'll bee a Wildcat. Just venting a little here...

Miller did have a visit on Monday night
I'm hearing that Miller has told Brandon Williams that he believes Akinjo will commit during his visit & that if he (Williams) commits they will both play be on the floor together. This was Miller's plan when Quinerly originally committed, so I don't think it will deter Williams from committing. It will all come down to how this weekends Oregon trip goes for Williams. We'll keep you posted.
Both of them on the floor together?
What about Akot/Randolph/Smith?
Uh oh!!

That's 5 players who will man 3 spots most of the time, but I imagine Akot may also play some 4. That doesn't seem too bad, though it would definitely relegate Barcello to a small role.
Like Jav said, Miller has always been fine going with a guard/wing from the 2-4.
The best players will play. Barcello might be better than Akinjo or Williams and might not be. Competition is good.
Barcello played over Akinjo on the same AAU team but they often played well together. I wouldn't concede the starting position so fast as I think Barcello is just some shooting confidence away from being very serviceable.
If Akinjo and Barcello already have a good relationship from their AAU days that's an even better situation. Reel him in, Coach.
I think it would be great to have so much depth 1-3. If Miller is determined to get back to the defensive roots of the past years, he is going to need to sub ALOT more to keep fresh legs on the court at all times. Instead of seeing a couple guys playing almost the entire game, you could rotate a lot of guys in shorter intervals to maintain intensity all game long. Most of the guys 1-3 could be pretty interchangeable at any of those positions if it called for it.

Let's not forget his inability to stay in front of his man on defense.
That is one of the biggest things that will get you yanked for Miller unless he doesn't have my other option equal or better than you.
I think there will be a lot of disappointed people if they think Akinjo is gonna come in and play 30 mins.i also think you haven't been paying attention if you think Akinjo will play over Barcello. Miller has a history of favoring upperclassmen. Just look at Randolph he was a highly rated kid(higher than Akinjo) and he was benched for Smith, a guy who has no impactful future here at AZ. Think about that Miller was willing to risk Randolph transferring ala Simon because he trusted a guy in Smith who had been in the program more than a year.
Also Akinjo is not an elite recruit. Dude is listed by Draft Xpress at 5'9 and if you watch his Vids he over dribbles among other things.
Elite level 5 star pg's struggle coming out of Highschool, just look at Jaylen Hands(and he played in a pg friendly system) and the same thing with Trevon Duval. Not sure I'd bank on a less talented Akinjo coming in and taking the reigns.
I hope the kid proves me wrong because I like him but as an upperclassman.
BWill and Akinjo together would be nice.

That was my immediate reaction. I'm not worried about Barcello's shot at all. And I think his offensive struggles were more a side affect of his failing at other parts of the game. He really struggled on defense and really struggled to control the ball against good defenders. Maybe the game will slow down for him a bit next year and he'll be able to be a solid contributor.

I'll see your Randolph and raise you a Mayes. Miller has also shown he won't stay with a player (even if they had some great games for him as a freshman) if that player is not out producing the current competition in practice.
I know it's frustrating when we don't see excellence, but I have a hard time believing that playing time isn't directly related to how players perform in Miler's rating system in practice.

And his shot was actually the best part of his game to me.
He showed the ability to handle the PG duties on offense, but it always on the defensive end that is where the freshmen have the toughest time transitioning.
Putting the ball in the basket is not hard, that part will never change, the way you defend gets harder with every level you climb.
As of now, Barcello has the making of a Mayes 2.0 as a guy who is able to run the offense, but his defensive struggles prevent him from being on the floor as much as he should.

Miller has never wanted to sub more, like I was saying earlier, you will get yanked for someone who is able to do what you couldn't do.
This season we went 8-10 deep, and with so many freshmen (3) that we relied on every game, Miller would have to go deeper into the bench.
Next season, as it stands, we may be going 8-10 deep again unless our freshmen return as very good sophomores.
Again we will have a lot of newcomers and Miller is going to continue to tweak the lineups until he is able to find a group that gives him what he wants, or comes the closest to it.

Brandon Williams says he DID NOT commit to Oregon while posting a pic of him leaving the Oregon airport.
The fact BW went on the visit, came away without a commitment, makes me think that is VERY well for us; very bad for Oregon.
Need I remind everyone, Williams has signed his financial aid papers (so has O'Neal) so their spot in this class is already reserved.
It is a loophole in the recruiting process, but it is a smart way of leaving yourself an out by committing with signing a LOI.
With Oregon being our biggest threat, and he continues to stay in contact, and visit without a commit, makes me believe that he has found his school and just enjoying the process.
I think even bigger than the fact that he didn't commit by the time he left Oregon is the fact that he felt he needed to let people know that he left without committing. That certainly has to mean something good for us as well.

That is good to hear. Did not want to wait till June for his visit to the Zags.
So, you have to think that Miller has to know what Williams is going to do. Of all the teams on his list Arizona needs a PG the most. If Miller waits for 2 more weeks hoping Williams will commit then it might cause us to lose out on one of the grad transfer PG's that are available & would be such a Dick move by Williams. Crossing my fingers that Williams has already secretly recommitted to Arizona & is just enjoying the process.

Brandon Williams final 3 schools are Arizona, Oregon, & Gonzaga. Best part is that there's NO ASU!!!
Also, if you listen to the words to the song playing it says that's my Top 3 in the order. Arizona was the first school revealed so... 🤔

I only watched the 1st 3 seconds of the final 3 video & hit stop. So in my mind he picked Arizona again.

I agree. I'm thinking he has already told Miller he'll be recommitting. He likely talked about it with Akinjo as well, but Akinjo isn't going to put another guy's business out on front street. All he's doing is soaking in the recruiting experience. Nothing more.
After news of Pg Justin Coleman committed to Arizona Brandon Williams stepdad let it be known that Coleman's commitment would not affect Williams decision. Williams is scheduled to visit Gonzaga tomorrow 4/28.

This could be a McConnell/PJC 2.0 situation.
We have a senior PG, a true freshman behind to learn for a year knowing he was going to be handed the keys as soon as the upperclassman leaves.
If the results are the same, I'll take it..
Brandon Williams posts a pic in Gonzaga jersey and media outlets start reporting he's committed to Gonzaga. He DID NOT commit to Gonzaga

ESPN reporter Paul Biancardi also reported Brandon Williams committed to Gonzaga and then he deleted his tweet when he realized he was wrong. This is just too much! He has not committed anywhere as of yet.

I talked with Brandon Williams again tonight and I'll be posting more on this tomorrow.

I still have faith in Barcello making an impact in the next couple of years too

I didn't intend for that to be a slide on Barcello.
It is hard to have three PGs on a roster like ours and expect all three to be fine with their situation.
Even if Barcello was able to carve out a role, how would that look in the rotation?
We should still have Williams at PG, Smith/Randolph/Akot/Doutrive/Theilemans on the wing for 1-3 years.
The bodies start to add up and you think someone isn't to stay if they are clearly being recruited over AND aren't getting the reps they believe they deserve.
Unless Barcello is able to bring something to the table that Coleman/Williams can't, or do it much better than them, he isn't going to climb high enough to make his mark, unless he is one of those players that is just happy to be at his hometown school.
I was able to talk to Williams a couple of times in the past week or so. I asked him if he was going to have a final 2. He said his next announcement would be his final one & would be his team. I joked & asked if he was going to make an announcement on when his announcement would be & he said that yes he was actually going to announce the date he's picking his team, so we'll all know the exact date he'll make his announcement soon.
I asked him about what he thought about the 247sports predictions (They're all picking Oregon) & he said that they're wrong & have no clue who he's going to pick. Williams said 247sports makes their predictions after they talk to the players & he said he doesn't talk to any of the 247 guys.
Williams just got done with his Gonzaga visit & I'll be posting a more on what he had to say after his last visit later today.

BWill's final visit at Gonzaga has now come and gone and now we just have to wait for him to decide. Like we said above Williams has made an announcement of his announcement, lol. He's announcing who his team will be on Saturday May 5th at 3:30. Let's get to the rest on Williams
I asked BWill about his twitter post of his top 3 schools. In that post he had background music with lyrics that Wildcat fans quickly picked apart. The lyrics said "that's my top 3 in the order" Williams said that Arizona just happened to be the first team that was shown and thought it was crazy how deep people were looking into it.
I asked Brandon what he liked best about Arizona, Oregon, & Gonzaga. He answered the question by telling me what he liked about Arizona & didn't say anything about Oregon or Gonzaga. He did mention that Oregon players Bol Bol & Miles are constantly texting him like crazy trying to recruit him to the Ducks. While I was talking with him a report came out that he had committed to the Zags. He immediately asked who was saying this and said he did not commit to the Zags contrary to the reports.
Finally, I asked him what school he was going to pick. He said that he really doesn't know what school he's going to pick. He did say that his parents might want him to go to a certain school, but in the end he's going to pick the school that he wants to go to.
Awesome stuff Wild! Check out this 247 article where Williams step dad talks about his Gonzaga visit.

That sounds like Dad wants him at Gonzaga!

Hey WILD, you mentioned that Williams told you what he liked about Arizona. What did he say??
I don't know how I missed adding that. I asked BWill. What do you like best about Arizona, Oregon, & Gonzaga? He only answered about Arizona saying. "What I like best about UofA is that the players and coaches treat me like family." and did not answer what he liked best of the other 2 teams.
There's a bit more I realized I missed. I asked what his favorite player ever was at Arizona. He said it was Stanley Johnson and then added or maybe Gilbert Arenas.

And if you want to add that to his quote, "My parents (stepdad) might want me to go to a certain school (Gonzaga), but in the end, I am going to decide what school I want to go to (Arizona/Oregon)."
I am trying to put my homer shades aside and make a case for why he would choose a program other than Arizona, but I seriously can't.
Aside from the "go to Oregon and play with my boy (Bol)" angle, there isn't a reason I would see him choosing Oregon over Arizona.
Gonzaga was my immediate threat, but after he made that comment, I would push my chips in on Arizona at this point.
This is coming from someone that uses logic, reason, and a bit of guessing to say this so..
You realize there will be suicidal attempts made if he chooses another school.
Lol

I know this is late, but the one positive that Williams said about Gonzaga was that Mark Few was funny. Like funny in a way where he's not trying to be funny, but he was just naturally funny. He said everyone knows someone who's like that. I wish I took better notes when I talked to BWill. Oh and Brandon Williams real official nickname according to him is actually BWILL. If I remember anything else I post it here.
