Q&A with four-star point guard Devon Dotson
GARDEN GROVE, Calif. -- Four-star point guard Devon Dotson is in the midst of a terrific spring playing for Team Charlottes on the Under Armour Association circuit. Scout.com caught up with the 2018 guard this past weekend.
Evan Daniels: How do you think you have been playing?
Devon Dotson: I feel like I have been playing pretty good. The first two sessions we came out slow start but picked it back up in Indiana, but individually I feel like I have played pretty good. I have made some strides with my jump shot and it feels good.
Where does your pace come from?
It's just natural from playing a lot of basketball, I have been playing since I was four, just the point guard position. And just watching film of myself and other great point guards. Just seeing the game from a different perspective and making other players on the court better.

How much film do you watch?
I actually watch a lot, I have a Synergy account so I just watch that stuff and youtube.
What players are you watching to try and learn from?
From IQ standpoint, the decision making with Chris Paul, the way he facilitates and the way Westbrook gets to the basket.
Do you feel like you have ramped things up with this being your last summer?
Yeah, this is my last ride, I have been playing AAU for a long time so just trying to end on a good note and going out with a bang.
How's the recruiting process going?
It's going great, just talking with my parents and coaches keeping in contact with me so it's going good.
Who has really prioritized you?
A lot of schools are doing a great job but the schools coming to mind are Kansas, Florida, Arizona, USC, Miami (Fl) is doing a good job, Wake and NC State.
What's the next step for you?
Looking to cut it down pretty soon and look at my options and talk with my family and see what school is the best fit.
Do you think you will do any visits in June?
I don't know about June, it's a lot of basketball I have been playing so I don't know yet but I probably will in the fall.
Will you make a decision in the fall or spring?
My goal is to make a decision by the fall time but you never know. Things can come up, things can change but that's my goal right now.
What's the draw to Arizona?
They have just been saying they need a dynamic point guard to lead the team., and just be that extra gear, run with a fast pace with a guard like myself and be a leader down there.
What do you like about Kansas?
I have already formed a relationship with all the coaches on the coaching staff, they have made me a priority, they say I can lead since day 1, and I took a visit out there and it's great out there so it was a great visit.
What sticks out about Florida?
They just have a different culture there. His culture is all about his guys and he feels like he cares about each and every player.
Did NC State's new staff just jump on you?
Yes they did, right after they took the job they called me and looking to turn things around and just trying to get a point guard like myself.
What do you like about Miami?
"Miami has became interested recently, but they have done a great job in contacting and creating a relationship with my family and I. Coach L has been texting me everyday. They say I can come in as freshman and make a big impact on the team."
