Shareef O'Neal's coaches talk about him signing to UofA
I have said this several times, but I will say it again, having Williams/O'Neal sign papers that obligate us to honor their scholarship is VERY good for Arizona.
Even though they could opt to attend another school, the signing(s) make it clear they want to be at Arizona and as long as we don't get into any ****, they will both be at Arizona next season.
What I worry about is who is going to be the first recruit to commit after the allegations.
That to me is going to be the measuring stick to how good (and big) this class will be for us.
I wonder what the coaching staff is saying to these players to get them to sign. There must be some optimism about this investigation.
They are essentially doing us a favor and signing a soft commitment where we are more bound to them than they are to us. If we get hit with a ban hammer, any school would be more than happy to scoop them up with little notice.
Williams and O'Neal have ample opportunity to do the easy thing and sign elsewhere and it wouldn't affect their development or careers. Whether or not it's legally binding, their willingness to support the program shows a high level of commitment and character.
