Title: Big-12 is still #1
Post by: KansasCityCats on March 23, 2026, 10:16:08 AM
From top to bottom, the Big-12 is still the best.

The Big Ten is in the midst of a nice postseason run:

Big-12 > Big Ten: 9-9

It was 8-8 until TCU beat tOSU.  Then...fUCLA beat UCF.

Big-12 > ACC: 13-8

Dook's win over TCU provided one more "consolation W" for the overrated ACC.

Big-12 > SEC: 13-7

Bama beat an injured TTU, ISU blew out UK and Houston destroyed A&M.

Big-12 < Big East: 6-8

We had an opportunity to tie things up but KU blew the matchup with the Johnnies... Arizona could have also taking down Nova, if Utah State didn't get the first round victory.

I'd say that they're atop the standings because UCONN won some decent games but according to the NET rankings, they're 5th (and struggled against the other major conferences).

Thats a lot of spin. B12 was the better league in the non-con, but the B10 obviously got better and just placed 6 teams in the S16. Even the SEC has 4 in the S16. We will see this week starting with Houston vs Illinois.

It's all about lucky matchups.

Michigan State played Louisville without their best player. Tennessee had an easy draw against Virginia, who earned a 3-seed, despite only having two legit wins all year. Illinois and Arkansas had the low seeds fall into their laps for the second round and BYU/TTU have obviously struggled, since losing one of their top two players.

Despite those two injuries, the Big-12 is still 3-3 against the combined SEC/Big-10. Yes, we'll see how Houston, Arizona and Iowa State perform later this week against Illinois, Arkansas and Tennessee, respectively.

My take is that the big12 is stronger at the top but the middle of the of the B1G is better.
Defining which conf is "better" is up for interpretation.

Hopefully AZ proves more than opinion and words in the next 4 rounds.

I agree. Both conference are deep from top to bottom and the Big-Ten might be better in the middle.

It's hard to compare because schools like Oregon played an entire season with one (or zero) quality wins (depending on whether you consider Wisconsin "quality").

Comparing our "3rd to last place school": Oklahoma State beat tournament teams like UCF (twice), BYU,Texas A&M and South Florida.
