Having it out in the open and tracked by the betting services and taxed reduces the chance for abuse imo.

Anyone remember Steve Headake Smith at ASU in the 90s?

Nothing new here.

Very easy for prop betting. Just get your Mom's hair dresser's, dog walker's, 2nd cousin's Uncle's kid who is a cashier at the local Circle K to open some betting accounts and take the Overs/Unders on "Rebounds", then watch how the team clears out the lanes on FT misses and Defensive Rebounds off deep shots. Spread the $50 bets around to enough books, especially Foreign based Crypto Books, withdrawal via Crypto and purchase Visa Gift Cards with the crypto for 2-5% fees.

Tale as old as modern time... You don't have to have done it to know about it. Good luck to the "Catch Me If You Can" people of the world over "$500" a game per person with 100s of people in on it as a network.

You'll know pretty easily who is in on it and who isn't.

Just let the kids make their money. The more pushback that happens, the more likely players will go renegade and cost teams games. Better to let them have their cake on the Props than the Spreads/MLs/Totals. Pick your poison.
