Arizona's Gilbert Arenas arrested for running illegal gambling business
Former NBA Star Gilbert Arenas Arrested in Illegal Gambling BustOn July 30, 2025, former NBA star Gilbert Arenas was arrested in Los Angeles on federal charges tied to running an illegal high-stakes poker ring from his Encino mansion. The U.S. Attorney's Office alleges that Arenas, 43, orchestrated the operation from September 2021 to July 2022, alongside five co-defendants, including a suspected member of an Israeli organized crime group. Facing charges of conspiracy, operating an illegal gambling business, and making false statements to federal authorities, Arenas reportedly rented out his home for cash games like Pot Limit Omaha, with associates managing logistics and profiting from game rakes. After pleading not guilty and being released on a $50,000 bond, Arenas awaits a trial set for September 23, with potential penalties of up to five years per count if convicted.
The operation allegedly featured a branded "Arenas Poker Club" table, armed security, valets, chefs, and women hired for hospitality services, with defendants skimming their tips. A 2022 raid by Homeland Security Investigations uncovered cash in Arenas' bedroom, and prosecutors claim he lied to authorities about his involvement when attempting to reclaim the seized funds. Known for his electrifying NBA career with the Washington Wizards and a 2010 gun-related suspension, Arenas, now a podcast host, faces scrutiny that could tarnish his legacy as a three-time All-NBA guard. Text messages cited in the indictment reveal Arenas coordinating with associate Arthur Kats, who remains at large, highlighting the sophistication of the alleged gambling ring that has now thrust the former star back into the spotlight for all the wrong reasons.

Arenas says he's innocent and he was just renting the house.
No Chill Gil has no chill.
Widely known about. I am a little bit surprised that this news broke today (yesterday). It has been years of the games.
As far as Gilbert goes - He has always had a gambling problem and I wouldn't be shocked if he was debt to some big fish here. He was always the guy on the Wizards that would bully rookies who didn't really have the dough into gambling with him, go down 6 figures, never let anyone quit when ahead on him. Played them back to even / up 10k then would demand payment. Sore loser in that regard.
Not shocked he enjoyed being "The House" at all.
This does not mean that Hibachi, Agent 0 wasn't a walking bucket. A true net snapper of his time when 20ppg avg was an appreciated skillset.
I always suspected that Lloyd didn't go after Alijah because he felt like he couldn't trust Gilbert not be a distraction

I have to agree on that one.
No one really knows when the Feds will make their move(s). I could believe Tommy had a finger on the pulse overall with this situation. The tin foils say the Tesla incident was a warning shot. Ruthless interwebs
Agent Zero at it again. Guns and Gambling rarely contribute to a good ending

Gil is a bit cocky. He did say he was snitching so he isn't worried. That makes me worry for him.
Agent zero to Inmate Zero?
