Channing Frye has been inducted into the UofA hall of fame!
Channing Frye, a standout center for the Arizona Wildcats, was named to the University of Arizona Sports Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2025, recognizing his remarkable contributions to the men's basketball program. From 2001 to 2005, Frye played a pivotal role in leading the Wildcats to a 102-31 record, including two Elite Eight appearances in 2003 and 2005. Over his four-year career, he averaged 13.5 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks per game while shooting an impressive 56.2% from the field. Frye ranks second in UA history in blocked shots and is among the top 10 in multiple career categories, including points scored, field goals made, and double-doubles. His senior season was particularly notable, earning him the University of Arizona's Sapphire Award as the outstanding senior male student-athlete and first-team All-Pac-10 honors after averaging 15.8 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. In his final collegiate game, an Elite Eight loss to Illinois, Frye delivered 24 points and 12 rebounds, showcasing his ability to perform on the biggest stages.
Reflecting on his induction, Frye expressed deep gratitude for his time at Arizona, stating, "I feel like I owe them a debt for making me who I am today," during a 2019 return to Tucson for the CATSYS awards. His journey from a Phoenix native and St. Mary's High School star to an NBA champion with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016 underscores his legacy as a Wildcat. Frye's work ethic and versatility, honed under coach Lute Olson, were instrumental in his development into a first-round NBA draft pick (eighth overall by the New York Knicks in 2005). "I was shooting extra shots at night with Jason Terry, Luke Walton, and RJ. Seeing guys like Jet and Richard work out that summer, it showed me how much they sacrificed to get so good," Frye recalled in a 2016 Players' Tribune article, highlighting the mentorship that shaped his career. His induction alongside fellow Wildcat Nick Foles and others in November 2025 celebrates his enduring impact on Arizona athletics.
