The Arizona State Sun Devils and the Arizona Wildcats meet Tuesday in college basketball action from McKale Center.
The Sun Devils started off the year on a nice run, but it's been a tough road since early January record-wise. Arizona State hit a 10-3 opening stretch across their first 13 games though, falling to only Gonzaga, Florida and BYU during that time. The Sun Devils would go 2-5 over the next seven, beating West Virginia and Colorado amid losses to Kansas, Baylor, UCF, Cincinnati and Iowa State. Arizona State would go 1-7 in their next eight, with a lone win over Kansas State amid losses to Arizona, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, TCU, Houston and BYU. That would give the Sun Devils a 13-15 record across their first 28 games of the season.
In their Saturday game versus Utah, the Sun Devils held a slim edge going into the second half 43-41. Arizona State was buried from there on a 58-30 run though, eventually falling 99-73. Joson Sanon topped the team with his 28 points, three rebounds and one assist. Basheer Jihad added 16 points with three rebounds and one assist, while Alston Mason had 13 points with four rebounds and four assists.
Over on the Arizona side, they've had a couple of pretty rough runs this year but overall they're doing fairly well. The Wildcats opened on a 4-5 stretch with losses to Duke, Wisconsin, Oklahoma, West Virginia and UCLA, then beat Samford, Central Michigan, TCU, Cincinnati, West Virginia, UCF and Baylor before another loss to Texas Tech. After wins over Oklahoma State, Colorado, Iowa State, Arizona State, BYU and Texas Tech, Arizona hit a 2-3 run with wins over Baylor and Utah. The losses otherwise were versus Kansas State, Houston and BYU, which would give the Wildcats a 19-9 record across their first 28 games this year.
Matched up against Iowa State on Saturday, the Wildcats were in trouble by halftime and facing a 43-30 deficit. Arizona didn't get any closer than that in the end, posting a 41-37 run the rest of the way in an 84-67 loss. Jaden Bradley posted 18 points with two rebounds, three steals and two assists, while KJ Lewis came off the bench for 13 points, six rebounds, two assists and two blocks. Caleb Love added 10 points with three assists in the defeat as well.

This is easily one of the six worst
victories in the history of this rivalry.
I enjoyed it. 113 points, a few T's and a timeout within the last minute to put senior walk-ons on the court (which drove Hurley nuts).
Oh, plus Sanon shooting a stellar 1 of 4 from deep in his only career game in McKale.

I will absolutely give credit where credit is due. ASU is by far the best 17 loss team in the nation. There's no disputing that.

Equal to our first half turnovers, which was pretty surprising. I don't know if Hurley was scared of fouling all five starters out...or if they just gave up on defense.
It was over 19 years ago, January 17th 2006 @ USC when ASU last scored 100+ points on the road in regulation.

Houston scored 62 against Arizona. If that's a broken defense then your expectations are preposterous.
Arizona is 57th in Defensive Efficiency this season. Considering the fact that we have the highest scoring offense in the Big-12 (and run a fast paced system), that's a solid ranking.
