Arizona Vs TCU 🏈 Game Preview/Discussion Thread 11/22/24 1pm ESPN+

The Arizona Wildcats will battle the TCU Horned Frogs for Big 12 bragging rights on Saturday at Amon G. Carter Stadium. The NCAAF game kicks off at 3:00 p.m. ET.

The Horned Frogs are 11.5-point spread favorites and the game total is 59.5 points scored.

Arizona (4-6 SU, 2-8 ATS and 4-6 O/U) beat Houston 27-3 last week. The Wildcats are 1-3 straight-up and against the spread on the road this season.

TCU (6-4 SU, 3-7 ATS and 6-4 O/U) were off last week and beat Oklahoma State 38-13 in its last game. The Horned Frogs are 3-2 straight-up and 1-4 against the spread at home.

The all-time series between Arizona and Texas Christian is tied 1-1. The Horned Frogs won the last meeting 13-10 in Tucson in 2003.

Arizona defeated Houston by 24 points last weekend despite narrowly outgaining (337-326) the Cougars. UA ended a five-game losing streak with the win, as QB Noah Fifita threw for two touchdowns and RB Quali Conley scored twice. The Wildcats were 10-for-17 on third down, while UH was a combined 2-for-17 on third and fourth down.

"We're fired up," Arizona coach Brent Brennan said. "It feels good. The locker room is super electric. We were super focused on just getting one, we had to win one and now we get to celebrate."

The sophomore Fifita leads the aerial attack with 2,548 passing yards, 15 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. His top receiving target is junior WR Tetairoa McMillan (69 receptions for 1,136 yards and seven TDs). The Arizona ground game is paced by the senior Conley, who has carried the football 127 times for 677 yards and eight touchdowns.

The Wildcats average 22.6 points (106th) and 371.0 total yards (85th), including 256.2 passing yards (38th) and 114.8 rushing yards (112th). They have allowed 56 tackles for loss (75th) and committed 18 turnovers (109th). Arizona converts 45.2 percent of its third downs (16th) and scores on 88.8 percent of its trips to the red zone (33rd).

The defense surrenders 28.3 points (92nd) and 386.3 total yards (88th) per game, including 220.3 passing yards (69th) and 166.0 rushing yards (94th). The Wildcats have generated 50 tackles for loss (89th) and forced 14 turnovers (54th). Their opponents convert 41.1 percent of their third downs (80th) and score on 80.9 percent of their red zone trips (44th).

Arizona Wildcats Injury Report: TE Keyan Burnett (undisclosed) is questionable to play on Saturday versus TCU.

TCU has put fans on a rollercoaster of emotions
TCU took down Oklahoma State in its last game, as the Horned Frogs scored on six of their first seven possessions. They didn't punt until halfway through the fourth quarter, as QB  Josh Hoover passed for 287 yards and a touchdown and RB Cam Cook ran for two scores. Texas Christian became bowl-eligible and handed OSU its seventh-straight defeat.

"Getting bowl eligible is big for our program," TCU head coach Sonny Dykes said. "We're still trying to develop an identity. It's been big swings and we don't really want to be that as a football team. I think we're starting to hit our stride as a team."
The sophomore Hoover leads the Horned Frogs' passing attack with 3,233 yards, 22 touchdowns and eight interceptions. His top receiving target is senior WR Jack Bech (56 receptions for 982 yards and nine TDs) and three other TCU pass-catchers have at least 500 receiving yards. The sophomore Cook leads the Horned Frogs' ground game with 107 carries for 414 yards and eight scores.

TCU averages 33.2 points (31st) and 439.6 total yards (29th), including 329.6 passing yards (6th) and 110.0 rushing yards (120th). It has allowed 43 tackles for loss (26th) and committed 18 turnovers (109th). The Horned Frogs convert 44.3 percent of their third-down attempts (27th) and score on 88.8 percent of their visits to the red zone (33rd).

The defense gives up 27.6 points (88th) and 358.6 total yards (61st) per game, including 186.5 passing yards (24th) and 172.1 rushing yards (100th). Texas Christian has generated 46 tackles for loss (109th) and forced ten turnovers (106th). Its opponents convert 44.4 percent of their third downs (104th) and score on 93.7 percent of their red zone trips (125th).

TCU Horned Frogs Injury Report: LB Cooper McDonald (ankle) and WR Jojo Earle (undisclosed) are questionable to play Saturday versus Arizona.

TCU is favored at 12.5 and the Over/Under is 59.5 points

Only a win can garner any sort of worthy discussion about this team heading into the Duel. So they have 1 more hurdle to clear for relevance

The move to the big12 was the final straw that broke BDU fan's will to endure the pain of watching Arizona athletics.

Brennan was not the right man for the job, but the powers that be decided to go with whoever was going to be able to keep Noah, TMac and the Branch Servites together. Jedd took a lot away from this program when he left that now is clear was unable to be replaced or replicated.

I don't know where this program goes from here. We will lose TMac. Not sure about Tacario or Manu. Not sure about the long named Right Tackle either.

Maybe Brennan can work the portal and find some guys, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a mass Exodus. This was supposed to be the year.

Now with BYU losing today, I am not sure how much the game vs ASU matters in terms of breaking ASU's heart, but I don't expect T-Mac to suit up for it nor anyone else who plans to go Pro or transfer. So in a way, I was hoping that ASU lost so that we had a chance to keep them out of the Conference Title Game, but without doing the Maths, it looks like ASU is secured a spot and it will come down to BYU, Colorado, and maybe Iowa State to see who will face them for the right to go to the CFP.

Someone should post the maths and scenarios. As far as I'm concerned, Arizona is back to the Mackovich days with Kris Heavner and Mike Bell.

Basically, if we beat ASU and they finish 6-3 in conference, and 2 of the 3 teams between BYU, Colorado, and Iowa State finish conference play at 7-2, then ASU is out of the title game.

Win and we're in. Err..."they're out".

BTW, how the hell did assu not get a penalty at the end of that BYU debacle?

The refs didn't consider a blatant intentional grounding, delay of game against the fans that took 18 minutes to clear the field OR an additional 15 yard personal foul against their immature coach that continuously screamed at the refs because his own ignorant fan base assumed the game was over.

15-45 additional yards gives the Cougars a legit chance to score with 1 second remaining. Total garbage.

Sounds like you are disappointed with the big12 refs? I guess they aren't much of an improvement over the PAC12 versions.

The Pac-12 refs were a disgrace but the football officials weren't the worst. This specific play was just a debacle. They should be embarrassed for swallowing the whistle.
