I miss the 90s.
Michigan has been on this journey for the last few years. They earned it.
However, I will always say that Georgia should have made it in over Alabama. There was no reason to leave them out for a Neutral Site loss when Texas obliterated Bama @Bama and got in.
2 Seasons before this, Georgia lost 1 game. The SEC Championship to Alabama 24–41. Georgia made the CFP and won it all. Bama had a Loss that season @ Texas A&M. So they got into the CFP, lost the rematch to Georgia and it was a bully beatdown 18-33. What did College Football learn that season? That Georgia only lost to Bama via obliteration and then came back and beat Bama via obliteration? No true Champion was crowned per that logic unless you take into account that Bama lost a game before the SEC Championship.
Then UGA went Undefeated and Won it All the following year. Dominant.
This season UGA lost 1 game. The SEC Championship to Alabama 24-27 and were left out of the CFP while Alabama lost to Texas at home in their own Stadium via Obliteration. But they won a 3 point game vs Georgia in the SEC Title game and got into the CFP.
If the debate would have been Bama vs Texas then the argument could have been made that Bama beat a better team than Texas did regardless if it was a direct win over Bama. Only 1 of Bama/Texas should have made it.
Now I am all for "True Endings". I think Michigan was the correct Champion. However, I believe Michigan would have lost to Georgia. Georgia broke the system and the CFP tried to make it entertaining at the cost of a trash New Years 6 slate. No one can debate that.
The NCAA/CFP had no incentive to help Michigan. They "cheated" according to some people. I don't think they cheated at all personally. However again, this year's Alabama team was not good at all. It barely beat Auburn in the Iron Bowl on a crazy last ditch hail mary esque pass. Final score not indicative.
THEREFORE, it must be acknowledged that the level of competition was purposely lowered this CFP.
Congratulations to Michigan, but I think if you wanted to find out who the best overall team was then you have to put the best teams into this tournament. I am concerned that the myth of the "Power 5" is going to make things even worse.
Why would an Arizona deserve a Bye Week for winning the Big 12 in theory? Why should a Florida State get an Autobid for winning the ACC when we know that they stand no chance in Round 2?
You are just asking for blowouts in the 2nd round. That is low quality football.
Side Note: Washington's Head Coach is really a dangerous person. He put the careers of his players at risk in various ways. He should be investigated for it. He ruined Dillon (Their RB) who got injured for no reason in the Texas game because he couldn't just take a knee? There was a very legitimate point where Texas should have won that game and for the most boneheaded of reasons. Texas may have stood a better chance tonight based on the injuries alone and this was a good game tonight. 2 or 3 miscues, maybe 4... Could have come down to the last possession easily.
Penix was clearly injured tonight and his Coach literally walked out on him in the Tunnel after the game. Now I can understand someone like Deboar not being interested in Money Bags Penix after he couldn't get the job done, but I felt that was all in poor taste. These are paid professional football players, but that coach treats those players like dirt.
I think that Jedd shows respect to his players by contrast.
Way to derail the thread...
That Arizona team also lost two OOC games and beat a ranked Utah squad.
We'll definitely lose more games this season and a 4 seed isn't out of the question.
It would be pretty amazing if the sports world repeated 1997.

No sense in false hope being tossed around. 4 seed would be accurate based on Pac12 being the worst conference of circumstance in CBB top to bottom. Notice I didn't say Power 5. There are at least 2 to 4 conferences that are stronger not considered Power 5.
I don't recall 1997 rankings, but I don't think Arizona was ranked #1 and thought to be impregnable at any point either. It was a very sad season that came together randomly after we had to come back from down double digits vs a 13 and 12 seed in the 2nd half of both games I believe?
It couldn't have been anymore random. This team can win independently of any gimmicks.
For reference, Arizona was ranked as high as #6 and was top 15 throughout the season. Coincidentally, they also played six top-25 non conference opponents.

Yeah, 6 rank back then wasn't #1 and it still isn't #1 today. That team was never too big for it's britches as a true wisenheimer would say
I believe!!!
