This is one of the real questions coming into this season! In Spring when we moved Savaiinaea to the outside to play tackle it shored up one issue but still left questions of who would fill the inside role. First is IF Savaiinaea can play the outside as well as he did the inside. That is not porven yet but appeared to be a success in Fall camp. Second was who is the right side Guard? It looks good on the depth chart to have several guys that can fill in, but we needed a starter type that can pull the bulk of the load. Bring in another true freshman. Last year savaiinaea stepped up as a true freshman in that very spot. This year it appears after only two days of Fall camp that Raymond Pulido has taken that spot. Could this OL really have three potential future draft picks starting for it? Looks that way. Look at the watch list for our OTs. Let's look at all the guys.
#77 Jordan Morgan
https://arizonawildcats.com/sports/football/roster/jordan-morgan/15117
We get Jordan back by default after his season ending injury last year. He was projected a late first or early second round pick at LT. LT is critical because that guy stands kinda on an island in protecting the QBs back side. Morgan is very good at that and why his draft status was so high. He would likely have been drafted even with the injury, but came back. That is a BIG win for us. IF Jordan stays healthy and hasn't lost anything he will be right back in that draft projection range this coming year.
#71 Jonah Savaiinaea
https://arizonawildcats.com/sports/football/roster/jonah-savaiinaea/15131
Big Jonah as he is often called, has made the move from OG to OT. As mentioned above, the OT is kinda on a insland against what is sometimes a very athleitc edge rusher and other times a bigger DL guy. That guy out there usually has very little to no help Jonah has shown he is ready for the challenge in camp. Now we need him to be that guy on that island on the outside. There is some little bit of question, but with him that question hasn't worried the staff at all. It is said that Jonah has the highest draft potential on the team and has been mentioned as a mid first round guy. Something to watch.
#72 Wendell Moe
https://arizonawildcats.com/sports/football/roster/wendell-moe/15115
Wendell has the size and the heart to fill this spot nicely. He played LG in four late season games last year and did very well. There was nobody who really competed for his spot during camp, not to say he had a lock on it, but! Solid guy who should add to the strength of the OL over-all.
#75 Josh Baker
https://arizonawildcats.com/sports/football/roster/josh-baker/15051
Josh started every game at C last year and has great communication skills to lead this OL. He will be a solid anchor and captain to this OL and the OL is what makes everything go on Offense.
#79 Raymond Pulido
https://arizonawildcats.com/sports/football/roster/raymond-pulido/15386
Raymond flipped from Alabama to Arizona which says a lot about his ability before he ever came to campus. It took two days to claim his spot at RG. If he can play with similar success that Big Jonah had last year at RG, this team may have the best OL in the history of the program as far as starters are concerned. Not much to put on a true freshman right? Maybe we should call him Big Ray? The right side of this line is HUGE. Yes, I have to say that he will project as a future potential draft pick if he is anywhere near what he appears to be.
#58 Sam Langi
https://arizonawildcats.com/sports/football/roster/sam-langi/15100
Sam started three games for us last year and has played quite a bit for us at times. He is a solid rotation guy and someone to step in at times and that will likely be his role baring injury or some other setback.
#62 Joseph Borjon
https://arizonawildcats.com/sports/football/roster/joseph-borjon/15055
Joseph has made good progress since joining the program a couple years ago. He has not seen some time, but mentioned at times before we knew about Pulido, and the return of Morgan. That is one reason we had questions on the OL, but we really do not know how good this kid can be in game situations, yet.
#65 Leaf Magnuson
https://arizonawildcats.com/sports/football/roster/leif-magnuson/15105
Leaf was definitely talked about for the OG spot before Pulido came in. Leaf has been with the program for a couple years now and looks to be a very solid rotational guy
#55 JT Hand
https://arizonawildcats.com/sports/football/roster/jt-hand/15083
Another legacy guy that followed his father here to the desert. JT looks to be a solid rotaion guy that played some at LG last year. I know at one pont he was working to rotate at the C spot as well. With some game experience he will definitely be a guy the staff can call on to rotate in.
#78 Grayson Stovall
https://arizonawildcats.com/sports/football/roster/grayson-stovall/15142
Grayson is a great kid as well. Character is huge for this staff and Grayson fits that mold. Grayson has taken on the role of the primary backup to Baker at C. We hope to see him in some game situations for sure, but hopefully only in mop up time this year. It is hard not too like this kids work ethic and attitude.
#63 Elijah Payne
https://arizonawildcats.com/sports/football/roster/elijha-payne/15385
Payne could have maybe been an option at RT if he had been on campus for Spring Camp. Reports from Fall camp have been positive and that bodes well for Arizona's future OL play.
#59 Rhino Tapa'atoutai
https://arizonawildcats.com/sports/football/roster/rhino-tapa-atoutai/15270
Another kid with great potential. Big guy that needs to build a little on his frame like most freshmen. Loved his attitude in the Spring and should be like Payne, a future starter on our OL.
#54 Jacob Reese
https://arizonawildcats.com/sports/football/roster/jacob-reece/15124
Sat out a lot his freshman year with some kind of health issue. I believe it was heart related at the time.
#56 Tylen Gonzalez
https://arizonawildcats.com/sports/football/roster/tylen-gonzalez/15382
Little was know about this kid coming out of HS, but I can tel you the staff sees him as a very high prospect. I do not think we see a lot of him this year, but if the staff is correct this kid may shine for us in the future.
There is a true two deep along the front line and there is size we have not had before. There is also that talent level that we rarely see at Arizona on the OL. NFL prospects? at Arizona? YES! IF this line is as good as it appears they can be our entire offensive production may take a huge step forward this year.
This is why I say we go bowling this year regardless of the D.
