Title: Ryan Nembhard has officially committed to Gonzaga
Post by: WILD on April 21, 2023, 08:45:33 AM
All I can say is WOW. Almost everyone had received intel that Ryan was going to transfer to Arizona to even before he entered the transfer portal. He visited both Gonzaga and Arizona and something changed and ultimately chose to go to Gonzaga. I'll admit that I was wrong on this one along with the 5 who put in crystal ball picks to Arizona, but at the time we all reported he was going to Arizona because that is what all the inside sources were saying. I'm hearing some thing happened on his trip to Tucson, but I'd like to confirm that before I put it out there. Either way, we'll have to move on and trust that Tommy knows what to do next.

People change their minds.  He's a good player but it isn't a decision that will drastically alter the program because Boswell is young and ready to take over the point.

Maybe Kim Aiken ruined Nembhard's visit...

I'm feeling very negative today. I probably need some time to cool off.

Big deal, he wasn't that good of a player to hinge our future on. I think its time for Pelle to stop caring and start playing up to his potential. He has shown he can slash to the rim and score. He is capable of a big jump I think. This should be the message from Tommy.

This is what the phrase "don't let them see you like this" is for.

Agree with what's said about Pelle, he has shown he can slash and score, we really need that..I too hope, and believe he can take that jump!

I don't understand why a fan base thinks the sky is falling after a transfer opts for another Top-10 program

His brother previously attended the school, he was offered a ton of money and he couldn't even hear Arizona head to head last season (his turnovers down the stretch cost the blue jays a big loss to the Cats).

I'd be upset if this roster were bare but Boswell is our PG and we have plenty of talent returning...

It is an indictment on Tommy Lloyd not being able to seal the deal. Pelle is a terrible basketball player by the standards he is held to. He should be the 6th or 7th man on this team and we may end up stuck with him starting at this rate. Ballo can't play more than 15 games without needing an oxygen tank. Lloyd doesn't know how to coach Bigs in this era of basketball as he won't let any of them step out and shoot the ball. There are plenty of causes for concern. Boswell, Pelle, Lewis, Henri, and Ballo with Dylan Anderson is not going to get it done. If Borovician is still on the roster I guess he would have to be the 6th man. It's pretty comical. Considering Tommy needs to fill out the roster and I just stated all of the above, why would any of these players stay in Tucson if Tommy brings in players who are automatically better than them by sole virtue of having had playing time while Tommy forced almost all of those aforementioned to be banished to the bench for no valid reason at all last season.

Pelle is a fully capable senior that will deserve significant minutes. Ballo put up ridiculous numbers as the most improved player in the conference.

Lloyd not only helped Ballo as the MIP...he did the same with Koloko...as well as more than a dozen bigs during his tenure in Spokane. He absolutely knows how to coach bigs and I'm sure we'll see improvement in at least one of our bench guys this year (likely Veesaar because it appeared that Dylan still needs more time to adjust to the college game).

Uhm, the roster is bare. Lloyd had a 7 man rotation last year.... 4/7 are gone and not replaced. Boswell, Ballo, and Larsson ain't gonna do it. Until Lloyd starts pulling talent, it's totally understandable why fans are worried. Perhaps he should put the pickleball racket down and earn his paycheck.

At this point I think kylon, ballo are solid starters, I like pelle off the bench he has proved to me last year  that he is better in that role I  fill like we need 3 starters.

Hopefully  there is some guys  that still hit the portal.

Hard to argue these points......

We have four returners listed at 6'8"+, Pelle and Boswell...in addition to Lewis.

Find 1-2 wings and a PF in the portal for depth and we're back in the top-10 for a third consecutive season.

Arizona has had darker times. Fans are only freaking out because there are unknowns and we ended the season on a bad note to a team that was undervalued.

You are still in denial overall. I really think you are just defending your position against me specifically, but the truth is there is a vast silent majority that thinks the exact same way. I am just saying it. There are also plenty of people on this forum who see what I see and speak out about it in a slightly less harsh way.

Let's look at this comment on the thread from MDcAtZ.

"Uhm, the roster is bare. Lloyd had a 7 man rotation last year.... 4/7 are gone and not replaced. Boswell, Ballo, and Larsson ain't gonna do it. I think this comment is accurate. It is concise. It speaks loud volumes in a short amount of sentences. You are acting like this isn't the truth KC. It is the truth. We, as a fanbase, are not willing to quietly assimilate into becoming a Mid Major. It's just not going to happen no matter what you think.

When Tommy failed to land Kwame Evans and Cody Williams, losing them to Oregon and Colorado to boot, it began a sequence of events that has pushed the narrative to this point. You can't honestly say that it was for the best. Losing those 2 recruits was a big deal. Had we landed one of them, the team outlook would be a bit different right now.

Tommy should not be getting beat out for these recruits by Colorado and Oregon.

Right now we are on our last legs hoping for Carter Bryant. I really do hope we land him. It would mean a lot for Tommy's reputation.

Knowing that Tommy Lloyd has to fill out the roster with "whatever is left over" is pretty awful for a program that has had so much success over the last 2 years under his command. That says a lot about Tommy. I think that the Pac12 is the weakest conference of the Power 8. Yes 8. But there is no excuse for Arizona to not win the Pac12 Conference and Conference Tournament again other than Tommy being caught with his pants down in this recruiting period.

Also on the Pelle Larsson issue - He should remain the 6th man. That does not mean it's a knock to him. He will still average around 30 minutes per game.
