I was 9 years old visiting a relative in Phoenix and he was a sun devil fan. Arizona was about to play Oklahoma and he bet me 10 bucks that Arizona would lose. I had never watched UofA play but he went over all the players from Sean Elliott to Steve Kerr and I was intrigued. I watched every second of the game and of course was heart broken when we lost. I've been hooked ever since.
Old fart here. My fondest memory and first are the same. Getting up at dawn to get in line for tix at Bear Down on Sat mornings. School and community was bonkers for Freddie, Conniel Norman, and Eric Money.
I believe Bear Down only held about 5,000 or so, so tix were a premium. Place rocked!
KZAZ Channel 11 ! Remember a CAT game versus New Mexico..maybe Wyoming. Way back in the Fred 'The Fox' Snowden days. The 75-76 team that made an Elite 8 run got me hooked.

Oh man ..... to go back when life was the best. I first started watching Arizona basketball with Chris Mills. I remember Bruce Larson and Dave Sitton were the TV guys. Was it channel 18 ?? Lol. Matt Othick was a point guard . Big Ed Stokes down low. Back when we didn't care about recruiting lol .... We just cheered whoever was on the team . Bear Down !
Can't remember the year but it was like 2000 or 2001. Before I even cares about sports. Went to see Arizona play at McKale north. Pretty sure 99% of the fans there were Arizona fans. Lol they whooped up on the scummies
1988 Final Four. I was actually watching KU as a kid but fell in love with the young Cats. By the time I started school in 2000, I refused to miss a game (for most Arizona athletics).
I was 15 and I heard about the riots downtown in 97, after we won the ship..That was the first time I heard about the cats!!
I became a diehard fan after the 2001 championship game, that was the first time I watched a game all the way thru. Shit results, but I was still hooked from then on!

Same with Fred "The Fox" Snowden. Eric Money and Coniel "Popcorn" Norman were closer to 74 but they got me hooked at a young age. Really sad, but Coniel passed away in '22.
