Report: Agency suing Arizona's Rich Rodriguez over alleged unpaid fees
On the cusp of another college football season, Rich Rodriguez is reportedly facing a lawsuit.
The Arizona coach has been sued by his former representation, Creative Artists Agency, according to a report from Variety Magazine.
The suit alleges Rodriguez owes the agency $203,250 in unpaid fees. CAA represented Rodriguez when the coach was hired by the University of Arizona in 2011, as well as when he twice signed two renewal agreements, according to the suit. Included in CAA's representation of Rodriguez was also the negotiation of a deal for the coach to appear as an analyst for CBS Sports, per the suit.
The agency also alleges Rodriguez will owe it another $357,000 in commission due from future income earned by Rodriguez according to his current contract with Arizona.
"Although Rodriguez terminated the relationship, this termination did not eliminate his obligation to pay the required fees for CAA's work performed on his behalf," the suit alleges, per Variety. "CAA attempted to resolve the dispute with Rodriguez's attorney prior to filing suit. Rodriguez's attorney refused to negotiate. Rodriguez's attorney claimed that Rodriguez terminated the Agreement between Rodriguez and CAA."
Rodriguez fired CAA in 2015 after negotiating his third contract with the university, and stopped paying commission thereafter, according to the suit. CAA is also seeking compensatory damages, attorney's fees and interest and punitive damages in the suit, according to the report.
Rodriguez has gone 36-29 (18-26 in the Pac-12) in five seasons at Arizona.

I do not know the details of the legal issues but the dispute is really about the agency not fulfilling the contract and RR not paying a portion of the fees due to what could be considered a breach of contract (they don't call it that). This could be resolved in a settlement outside of court or it may be settled in the courts. The only real option RR has when they do not fulfill the contract is to not pay them and then fire them. That is basically what happened and now the financial legal battle will be resolved in a court. This stuff happens all the time and is not a negative reflection of RR as a coach.
Agreed, this is not a big deal & happens all the time.
