Correction, UofA was subpoenaed, Ray Smith contacted.

That seems pretty straightforward; there's a lawsuit which the school is a party to which is seeking details related to how student athletes were handled (could be financial assistance, specifics to scholarships external to playing, treatment of medical retirement, medical procedures among athletes, etc). There's no way to gauge seriousness of it and if its just a procedural style lawsuit from a governing board / entity or some sort of specific attack brought on by a pissed parent / student, but Ray's almost certainly fine.

No he didn't...
Ray received notice that the University received a subpoena that included his records.   That's a night and day difference.
