I say leave the "Let it rip" nonsense to The Bear on FX. This is the Big Dance. You don't live on that edge for the thrill of it on purpose. You play to win the game by any means necessary. Survive and Advance.

Lucky for Tommy that Del Orso pulled through or this would be the worst loss in school history since Lute vs Illinois in 2005.

KansasCityCats

Not even close. Coming back from a 15 point deficit was the second biggest comeback in the Round of 32 history. The coaching and game plan allowed for a methodical victory.

Illinois was a debacle but at least we played a talented team full of future NBA players.

Xavier, Princeton, Wichita and Buffalo were significantly worse.

Love's interference on an alley oop to Lewis was on the players. Kinda hilarious because we won. Kerr is messing with Lloyd but knows that it isn't a coaching issue.

Nope. It would have went down as the 2nd worst failure of all time after Illinois and nothing can change by mind. The losses you describe were not meltdowns down the stretch and not worse - due to being foregone conclusions - other than maybe Xavier where we had a great opportunity. Princeton was a shit show and Tommy got all the blame in the world for that, but Houston was a worse loss by far as a 1 seed and getting blown out with ease. There are nuances that I rate differently than you clearly.

If we lost to Oregon under the circumstances, there would have only been 1 worse and that was Illinois. End of my story. It was 1 NBA player in Deron Williams and they were a 36-1 team at that point, down 15 with around 3:30.. unacceptable to the fullest.

This game would have been 2nd in the books.

KansasCityCats

A 4-seed losing to a 5-seed in a tight ending is far from a meltdown.

Being outscored by 19 in the 2nd Half to a 13-seeded Buffalo (when you're a heavy favorite to win a National Title) is the epitome of a meltdown.

Or...not having the ability to set up decent looks at the end of the Xavier/Wichita matchups, which could have been winnable if we knew how to beat the zone and score more than 55 points against double-digit seeds.

If the game had continued in the direction that it was headed, and we got blown out by 30, it would have been one of the worst ever. But I'm extremely biased because everyone knows I hate Dana Altman and Oregon more than anyone else.
