Arizona Vs Oklahoma St 🏀 Game Preview/Discussion Thread 1/21/25 7pm ESPNU

Arizona (11-6, 5-1 B12) travels to Stillwater to take on Oklahoma State (10-7, 2-4 B12) on Tuesday night in a Big 12 Wildcats vs. Cowboys prediction at 9pmET. Arizona is a brand-new Big 12 member so this is a new matchup for both teams.

Arizona has made a nice adjustment to the Big 12 from the Pac-12, unlike Arizona State. They come into this game having won seven of their last eight games, which includes a 70-54 defeat to Texas Tech on Saturday. The Wildcats played one of their worst offensive games of the year, shooting just 31% from the field and 17% (3-18) from long range.

The Wildcats are ranked 16th overall by KenPom and 20th in both Adjusted Offensive and Defensive Efficiency ratings. They are led by former North Carolina star guard Caleb Love, who averages 14.9 points and 2.9 assists, but is shooting just 38.9% from the field and 29.9% from beyond the arc. Junior guard Jaden Bradley, who got his start at Alabama two seasons ago, averages 11.6 points, 1.9 steals and 3.7 assists on 48.3% shooting and 33.3% from beyond the arc.

Arizona lacks great size as 7-2 Motiejus Krivas (7.9ppg, 4.5rpg) is out for the season after having foot surgery in early January. Overall, Arizona averages 82.4 points per game (31st), while shooting 47.8% from the field and just 31.8% from beyond the arc. They are strong defensively, allowing 68.8 points per game, 39.6% shooting from the field and 31.2% from long range. They are an elite team on the backboards, ranking 19th in total rebound percentage at 55.1%.

The Cowboys are coming off an 83-73 win over Colorado at home on Saturday after losing four of their previous five games. Winning at home hasn't been a major problem (8-1), but they are 2-3 in true road games and 1-3 in neutral site games, which includes a loss to rival Oklahoma on Dec. 14 from Oklahoma City. The issue for Oklahoma State is that they are 0-5 in Quad 1 games and 109 in the Net Rankings, so they have work to do. Beating the Buffs helped matters as Bryce Thompson and Marchelus Avery led the Cowboys with 15 points apiece. The Cowboys shot 46% from the field and they held Colorado to 23% (5-22) from long range.

Abou Ousmane (6-10, 245), a Xavier transfer, leads the team with 12.7 points and 5.8 rebounds while shooting 53.8% from the field. Avery (6-8, 210), a UCF transfer, adds 12.2 points and 5.2 rebounds, while shooting 34.1% from three-point range and 40.1% from the field. Overall, the Cowboys rank 105th on KenPom, 170th in Adjusted Offensive Ratings and 92nd in Adjusted Defensive Efficiency ratings. Oklahoma State is averaging 74 points on 42.1% shooting and 32.3% from long range. They allow 73.9 points per game, 47% shooting and 35.2% from long range. In terms of backboard work, they rank 52nd in total rebounding percentage.

Arizona is favored at 9.5 points and the Over/Under is 153.5 points

I predict that Bryant and Veesaar will inexplicably play a total of 5 mins and Oklahoma State will set a school record for threes and offensive rebounds.

One of the better performances by this year's Wildcats.

I think Tommy is listening. Slowly making the adjustments I have been calling for.
