Title: PAC12 announces postponement of ALL SPORTS until January 2021
Post by: WILD on August 11, 2020, 01:45:45 PM
Arizona football, basketball, along with all sports are now officially postponed.

Why the hell would they cancel all sports until January 1st?  Unbelievable!

not surprised at all, uni admins are notoriously risk-averse with billion dollar brands to protect, they're getting their medical advice from experts who are warning about a heart condition side effect, this allows them to kick the can down the road so they can see if community transmission rates drop while they try to figure out some NBA bubble scheme

we can only hope that shit gets straightened up by New Year, there has to be a way to hold games safely

So, because a handful of players have been found to have a rare heart condition, everyone else has to be shut down? That sound a bit more than just risk-averse.

Individual players and their families should have the freedom to decide, rather than a dozen millionaires deciding for everyone.

I agree with the sentiments of coaches like Saban, who preach that it's SAFER for athletes to be regularly tested at school, as opposed to hanging out in their hometowns with friends, families and strangers.

It would be ideal to let football players, play...however it becomes a tough situation when you allow other sports to play.  Regular testing is expensive and other sports don't have lucrative TV contracts.  If football players are hanging out with volleyball players in the dorms & somebody starts spreading COVID, it could disrupt the whole process.  Unpaid amateurs in a college town are harder to monitor than pro athletes that are locked in a bubble.

I still think that allowing football to play would be the right choice.  Isolate the players so they can focus on their zoom classes, workout and isolation during the pandemic.  At the same time, I understand the purpose of shutting down athletics because there are WAY too many unknowns that could occur during the season.

No need to sign back up for TV until the Spring.  ****ing bummer...

This is obviously a middle finger to the players that sent the list of requests (demands). Not sure what the Big-10 was thinking though...
