Probably should've just held on to Mike Stoops. He put a ton of guys into the nfl (comparative with RR and CKS). There was excitement in the program. I was beyond excited with landing Sumlin, but it's clear, he's just not the one for the job. Time to move on, I think the buyout at the conclusion of this year may be manageable...

Dump him now and get someone who loves Arizona first and will bring an ounce of pride back to the program.

Not sure how much the athletic department usually can contribute to buyouts, but they certainly can't this year with Covid wrecking that side of the house. It'd have to come from outside money willing to make it happen.

I'd assume that the program would make up for the $2MM difference to fire Sumlin at the end of this season, as opposed to 2022.  With a new coach and optimism throughout the program, fans would sign up for tickets if we made a good hire.

On the other hand, we need to ensure that Grant Gunnell (and a large portion of our 2021 recruiting class) remain intact.  We lost a TON of existing players and recruits since the pandemic began...and our roster can't afford to get thinner.

Stoops couldn't have saved us.  Even if he turned things around after his final 1-10 record in Tucson, he would have jumped to a bigger school.  The guy had no allegiance towards the U of A.  RichRod could have kept stability; that BS administrative situation really put a dent in the program.

Sumlin is a great guy & a brilliant football mind, but he surrounded himself with the wrong staff and lost games that should have been easy W's.  Best wishes to him in the future because I couldn't imagine Arizona retaining him beyond the next 14 months...

Mike Stoop wouldn't had last another season in the Direction he going regardless of having put guys in NFL.

We never should of fire RR at the end of 2017 season even thou the team show alot promise and poise to have break out season in 2018.

Sumlin? He treating UA like Texas A&M, Treating the PAC 12 like it SEC, Sumlin is like Mike Stoop same ole  Deja vu all over again.

The knee jerk reaction would be to fire him.
The longer reaction would be to hold off.
COVID is not going to make it easier for any school to fire/hire anyone in the middle of the pandemic.
The best thing for Arizona would be to try and ride this out, finish the season and fire Sumlin then and spend the next 4-6 months looking for his replacement during the off-season.
